A few weeks ago, someone started a thread mentioning a song line about things going well for three weeks. The person couldn't remember which show the line came from. It turned out there were two answers, "Fiddler on the Roof" (the dream sequence) and another show.
I thought it would be interesting to see if people can think of any other song or dialogue phrases that appear in multiple shows. (I'm not talking about sequels or revivals -- solely about unrelated productions).
The one I thought of (other than "three weeks") was "Come to me," from Fantine's song in "Les Mis" and from the song "Come to me, Bend to me," in "Brigadoon."
In the same show, the song "Something Very Strange" offers the lyric, "tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor, beggar man or thief." In Noel Coward's following musical, The Girl Who Came to Supper, the song "Saturday Night at the Rose and Crown " has the lyric, "tinkers and tailors and soldiers and sailors."
I believe there was a thread not too long ago dealing with songs from different shows having the same titles.
The beginning of "That's Rich" from Newsies is pretty identical to the beginning of "Take Back Your Mink" from Guys and Dolls. I suppose it's just because both are supposed to be nightclub burlesque-type acts, but when they come on on my IPod I never know which one I'm getting.
Company's 'You Could Drive A Person Crazy' has the line "Deeply maladjusted / Never to be trusted", while Jane Eyre's 'As Good As You' has the very similar "Never to be trusted / Completely maladjusted".
