Since Idina fell a little....

Has anyone (who has seen "Wicked")noticed that Idian sticks out her tounge when she sings????

re: Since Idina fell a little....

Absolutely. Each time I see her sing "No Good Deed," her tongue comes COMPLETELY out of her mouth.

re: Since Idina fell a little....

And "Defying Gravity," to mention just a few...
What's up with that???

re: Since Idina fell a little....

I guess it's the force of her screaming blowing everything loose out of her mouth?

Hey, it is a singing technique. Barbara has one with her mouth and many other great performers.

i have seen the show, and i guess i just was paying more attention to the fantastic sounds (the fantastic MUSIC not screaming) coming out of her mouth. i didnt notice her tounge.

but honestly, cant we just stop picking away at every little thing, its so childish

That may well be, but it's kinda' scary when you are on the front row...

She looks like a watermelon when she sings. It's the combination of the green face and her pink tongue.

re: Since Idina fell a little....

the tounge thing is a technical thing. it raises her soft pallate (which does lots of stuff i don't want to explain b/c its a commercial break and i don't wanna be late) thats why her belt is so amazing, b/c her technique is incomperable (spelling, sorry)

re: Since Idina fell a little....

i was talking about mary j. THAT was screaming, and it didnt sound good either. if idina screams (and she doesnt) at least she makes it work

re: Since Idina fell a little....

who cares. she can still sing. i bet if you payed more attention to more performers, you would notice all kinds of things they do.

re: Since Idina fell a little....

just from a theatre standpoint...its to create a more open sound on closed vowels...helps her sing her face off!

re: Since Idina fell a little....

Funny you would consider that good technique when what she displays while singing contridicts everything any teacher I've ever studied with has tought me.

...and that belt is pure shrill.

What is the world of musical theatre coming to? What happened to the times where the Stephanie J. Block's and Anika Noni Rose's of the world were the one's being praised for their INCOMPARABLE talents? Want to talk about an amazing belter? Listen to Stephanie. THAT is one hell of a voice.

I'm not looking for an argument... that is my honest opinion. It doesn't matter... it won't change a thing. She'll continue to have a cult following of avid teeny bopper fans... and she'll have her Tony to always look back on fondly. My opinion won't change any of that.

I think the Tonys are a complete joke. They spend so much time each year trying to right the wrongs they've done in previous years that they just screw over deserving nominees in the present year. There is no justice where award ceremonies are concerned.

Caroline or Change was snubbed.

I'm happy Avenue Q got some recognition. It's nice to see the underdog come out on top.

re: Since Idina fell a little....

all of the major awards shows are a complete joke, at least in terms of choosing who should win. I completely avoid them except for the Tony's, which I assume will be as skewed and predictable as the Oscars but I love for its celebration of Broadway. after all, what is an awards show but a chance for an industry to pat itself on the back. and dammit, Broadway theatre deserves its yearly pat on the back! so some people win and some people lose, at least we got 3 hours of OUR entertainment and celebrities onto CBS.

(This "newbie" is a SHE, hehehehe) I guess I did start something...something I noticed several times while watching the show. But y'all might also notice that I started a post that wonderfully congratulated Idina for her fantastick win!!

It's MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I won the Tony!!!!!!!!!!!

re: Since Idina fell a little....

Honey, if I were with Taye Diggs, my tongue would be out of my mouth all the time, too. She shrieks and screams way too much, but maybe that's explained by Taye as well.
