They're going to need a name to joint the show sometime. It's not selling well post-Groban.  It need not be Pierre, and maybe the secret weapon in sustaining a run is to slip someone into one of the other roles. But the show is not the star, and not (yet) a brand.  They need some star power post-Labor Day, if not before.  This is not my opinion, it's a financial fact. When Groban misses 3 - 5 performances, the BO drops hundreds of thousands, not tens. When he's gone for good, the show has an image/"event" problem, unless it sweeps the Tonys.

Well, he plays a teenager very convincingly, which for me makes him look to young to play Anatole.

"

Yeah, that totally disqualifies him from playing adult roles.

Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Even if does sweep the Tonys, they will have this problem. The audience has evolved (or some would argue, devolved) into not letting awards be the reason they pass on a show in favor of another one which has the current "buzz". Comet team will need a lot of promotion to keep the show going without stars. Hopefully they will get some names to join the production for first couple years until it develops the "brand" as you said.

My gut tells me what many on here have suggested: Oak is a temporary place holder until a bigger name comes in after Labor Day.

If they're going to star cast any role in the show, Pierre and Helene would be easier to cast then Anatole and Natasha. Natasha really is a really a role best for a trained soprano and Anatole has some notes that are viciously high. If you try to bring in just any celebrity for that role, I suspect much of Anatole's part would have to be lowered.

Though he likely reads too old for the role of Pierre, I'd love to hear Ramin Karimloo sing it. I think his Dust and Ashes would be excellent.

I find it interesting that many people are talking about age.  While reading War and Peace (which I am currently in the middle of) But it seems as though Anatole is around the age of 30-35.  He has already been married, and there are multiple references to age.  Even Pierre in the beginning of the book I think had recently graduated from college (maybe a few years after) and by this point he is also married to Anatole's sister.  I have the sense that Pierre is maybe 5-10 years older than Anatole?  At the beginning of the book, they speak of Anatole as a child, and Pierre as more of a man.  Honestly it will take a strong actor to pull off either of these roles, and this is also my take on the age.  Either way, I'm sure everyone has their own interpretations.
