Christy Carlson Romano, definitely.
I thought Drew Lachey was good.

Drew really wasn't all that bad. I expected a trainwreck, but I was pretty pleasantly surprised. No, he's not very good, but the talent he DID have was in singing. He really falters in the acting department, but I won't deny that he sort of can sing. And, it's been way worse. Joey Fatone, anyone?

I thought not.

I think joey mcintyre is one of the few that did well on bway and as a pop star....
Oy, I boycotted Rent when Joey Fatone was in it, but accidentally(long story) saw him in LSOH. Oy gavolt. I emphatically cheered when he was eaten. I remember just a dreadful crack during The Meek Shall Inherit...baad experience.
I'm seeing rent on march 7th i think it is...I'll be seeing one of Drew's last shows..a little sad that it's not the day after his last show or something..but I'll live.
OMG Wing! I was listening to sirius broadway's best and Christine Petty (spelling? sorry!) and she was being sarcastic (as usual but i didn't catch it) and was like "here is this AMAZING singer, she's sung evita, etc etc" and she put on "Don't Cry for me.." and I almost DIED! i was like HUH!??
Stephanie - correct spelling was Pedi
I second the motion on Wing. I came home from school one day and my mom was in tears, and she sent me to the site and made me listen to the clips over and over again.
I have never wanted earplugs more.
Does anyone have the link to Wing's website?
I usually don't like Sherie, her voice is shrill most of the time. But I've also never seen her live.
Thank you dotmarie! I almost los t all faith in the posters on BWW.
You people mentioned William Hung and not Wing? For shame!!
I lovelovelove Wing. At least she's entertaining.

Elaine Stritch, anyone? I constantly think "Who the h*ll would cast her in a musical?"
What role did Christy Carlson Romano play in PARADE? I really love to listen the cast recording. Was she Iola Stover or Mary Phagan?

You cast Elaine Stritch in a musical because she's a damn fine comedienne and performer- the timbre of her voice isn't pretty, but for me it works.
CCR was Mary Phagan, yeah. Iola was played by some girl named... Brooke, I want to say, but I'm not sure? And SHE has quite the voice on her.
I hate to say it and make anyone mad, but although I do like Idina's voice sometimes, she does make me say WTF a little, because you'd think she'd be enormously talented with all the people crying over her.
And, Barnaby, a lot of it may have to do with never seeing Sherie live... she's amazing, and I don't think she sounds shrill. If most of your listening is done on the L5Y recording, that could account for it, because her voice is a little thin throughout. Yet, charming.
And I must confess that the first time I saw Daphne in Rocky Horror I had a small "WTF?" moment, but it passed VERY quickly and she's still my favorite.
Keaton,
I totally agree with you about Idina. I just don't get her. I saw her in Rent and have the recording and find her voice very shrill. She was the main reason I didn't go to see Wicked.
Marilyn Miller. It really had to be heard in a theatre.
Miriam
Actually, I liked her when I saw her in Rent. But I figured her voice was like that for the part, and so I found it all quite brilliant... then I saw/heard her in other things and realized her voice was STILL like that... and I was very disturbed.

Bianca Marroquin........ugggh (good thing she can dance)
Ann Reinking (I love her though, I really really do)
Carol Channing
Elaine Strich
Frances Rufelle (makes me want to die)
Colm Wilkinson (WTF?!)
dude, brooke sunny moore? she's a lot better than a "brooke somebody." however one of the more horrendous voices i've had to endure was the lady that sang "another hundred people" at the kennedy center's company. it was so bloody aweful and shrill... i thought wing had taken the stage.
carol channing makes me want to poke out my ear drums...I throw up a little when I hear diamonds are a girls best friend....aackk
Elaine Strich
Frances Rufelle agreed...but Rufelle doesnt bother me as much..i just think she has an ugly voice...
Wing shall always hold a special place in my heart
But the WTF singer award for me goes to Carol Channing, although I love her madly
