hands off the legends, kids. we don't make fun of legends.
however i forgot to add to my list: heather headly. she sounds like kermit the frog.
Would you say Harvey's a legend, cuz he's #3 on my list (again, I love him madly, but his singing voice is less than pleasant)
Carolee Carmelo. I've only heard her in the concept recording of Jekyll & Hyde but she definitley made me go WTF!!! She has a old church lady vibrato.
lol i don't think harvy's voice is supossed to be "pleasent" so much, but no, he's not a legend yet. legends are useally dead or very very old and tend to rap at the tonys.

Albin - listen to Carolee Carmello on JOHN AND JEN. Her vibrato has her constantly going flat on her high notes. I don't understand why so many on this board worship her. It's the same thing with Donna Murphy. Through most of PASSION, you can't tell what note she's attempting to hit.
feinstein~ you think heather sounds like kermit? I think she has a gorgeous voice!
"I think it was the Korean tour or something. They were all frickin' asian!" -Zoran912
You want rampant vibrato, what about Christine Andreas? I just can't get used to her voice in the Scarlet Pimpernel OBCR, especially in her solos - it's not quite as bad as on the Fields of Ambrosia OLCR from a year earlier and I don't remember it being as bad when I saw that show, but it sounds like it keeps going sharp and flat in SP . . . annoys the heck out of me!
*Sigh* I only just found this place and I'm all overjoyed. Other people like me! Sorry, I'm Australian...we love us some musicals but...wow.
Just wanted to say hello to everyone before I join the Carolee Carmelo bashing :)
ooooh!
Go the aussie's. Where are you located?

Heather Headley? Kermit?
Now *that* makes me saw WTF? Kermit's a FROG!
::shrug:: Actually, as I understand it, her name is Brooke Sunny Moriber, so we're both wrong - her last name isn't Somebody OR Moore. I'm not a fan; she has a good voice, especially in Parade, but I didn't love her in The Wild Party.
I don't think I love Heather Headley's voice, but it doesn't make me say WTF and I don't see how she could ever sound like Kermit. Kermit ain't got no soul.

Most of the performers mentioned aren't known primarily as singers per se.
I'd have to say Betty Buckley. Although I think she's a wonderful actress (check out her heartbreaking scene in Woody Allen's "Another Woman") I find her singing voice to be consistently shrill. Am I alone?
Joey, BB seems to be a love-her-or-hate-her kind of performer. You're not alone.
i absolutely love adam pascal (hence the user name) so therefore i totally disagree with the people who dont like his voiec... but thats just me.
um i agree with CCR
i am easily amused by anyone singing.....i definatley have to agree w/everyone about those awful singers and for that i apologize to broadway....yuck!
ric
The ENTIRE cast of "The Chicago Musical Revue Plays Selections From Les Miserables " It's enough to make any Miz fan cringe.
Well, except Eponine...of course...
Take a listen; if you dare

do you know who the eponine is?? she's really good.
hm...
i agree with frances ruffelle and colm wilkinson. i love les mis, but i HATE their voices.
christy romano ruined BATB for me. I was really praying that Jennifer Hope Wills was going to be going on for Belle. She cracked all over the place. I thought that her acting would be the highlight, but it was worse!
i'm gonna get my butt kicked for this, but Mickey Dolenz. He was the worst Zoser i've seen. Well, i saw AIDA 3 times with John Hickok, once with John's understudy, and then with Mickey. His voice just didn't do it for me.

"Carolee Carmelo. She has a old church lady vibrato."
I couldn't agree more!!!! I think she was totally wrong vocally for Parade. Her voice would have worked in the 1940's production of Carousel, but styles have changed.
"I'd have to say Betty Buckley. I find her singing voice to be consistently shrill. Am I alone?"
No, I agree. I used to like her, but the more I listened to her, the more shrill she became. Her voice makes me think of metal.
"Carolee Carmelo. She has a old church lady vibrato."
That's so funny - I always say that Bebe Neuwirth sounds like "the old lady in your church choir." I've never heard anyone else use that analogy before!

Frances Ruffelle.
What the f*ck is up with her voice?? It is SO whiny and shrill that she sounds like nails on a chalkboard. Her recording of "On My Own", despite the fact that it is the original, is BY FAR my least favorite.
Well, it's a tie between Frances' version and Deborah Gibson's version. Equally vomit-inducing.
>>Now *that* makes me saw WTF? Kermit's a FROG!
that's the pooooooint. she sounds likes a frog! i know a lot of people dig her, which is perfectly cool, but from the first time i heard her voice, i thought, what's next "the rainbow connection"?
The entire cast of GOOD VIBRATIONS, except for Kate Reinders: WHY ARE THEY WORKING?
Kate Reinders: WHY DID YOU STOOP SO LOW AS TO BE A PART OF THIS ABOMINATION!?

I don't think Cleavant Derricks is horrible, but I don't like his voice. Its SOOOO raspy, it makes MY throat hurt.

I like Christy... she's so nice and I think Beauty and The Beast was a mistake... I mean trying to fill the shoes of Susan Egan is tough... give the kid a break...
Harvey Firestein makes me wanna scream "WHY MUST YOU SING?!"
Atleast he's on pitch...Christy Carlson Romano was never on pitch, especially during "A Change in Me."
And I agree 100% about Cleavant Derricks. I hated him in the show.
