Hi
The score is great - so don't worry about not liking it.
You could try www.play.com or www.dresscircle.com to see if they are any cheaper for you.

Posted: 7/29/09 at 2:51pmIt still seems to be cheapest on Amazon.co.uk. It comes out to about 22 dollars for the actual CD.

Posted: 7/29/09 at 4:29pmIt doesn't really work that way. You have to have a UK address.

They lost my sale today too for the same reason as you all.
No excuse. Why even sell the cast album at all besides at the theatre as a souvenir? MP3s and digital booklets are the way of today and tomorrow, love it or hate it (I much prefer real cds with booklets myself, but I realize they are the 33s of today). FIRST NIGHT records is notoriously cheap, bad and old-fasioned though. Some of their recordings are excreble if not for the content alone (MACK & MABEL concert comes to mind). Blah.
I was getting a little excited too... long time since a good new Menken score. Thanks for dashing that, First Night.

Posted: 7/29/09 at 5:01pmThey lost your sale? The only reason it's not on itunes is because it hasn't been released in the US yet. This happens all the time with West End cast recordings -- it's nothing new. You have to either purchase it as an import at a higher price or just wait for the US release.

I don't pay $30 for cast albums for shows like this sight unseen, which is my only option. Plus, if I do pay that much I better have the instant gratification factor that is NOT provided by waiting 2 weeks for delivery OR investing even more for faster shipping and still waiting a week. I'm not cheap, but for the price of a $30 CD I could get something I KNOW I want and will cherish. It really shouldn't be this way anymore... I've been collecting cast albums for nearly 20 years and while ALL of other recorded music has changed, cast albums remains distributed largely the same painfully old-fashioned ways. Blah. I'm bitter, don't mind me.

Posted: 7/29/09 at 5:59pmI'm still a little confused as to why you're bitter. Have you never had to purchase an import of a West End cast recording in the past? It's always the same circumstance.

Posted: 7/29/09 at 6:27pmWell, obviously, but that's "frowned upon". Especially if you'd like more cast recordings to be produced in the future.

I'm bitter for many reasons, Cats, lol, but the bitterness in regards to this relates to the fact that its just frustrating that the only way to get this legally is to wait forever and pay an exorbident price. If the producers REALLY cared they would offer the album on itunes or as a digital download for ANYONE, period. Just because the way they are doing it is the way it's always been done does not excuse it. Cast albums are the only albums in recorded music that are still so painfully old-fashioned in this way and it just gets old and irritating after awhile.
It may not be a good argument, but it's a true one and it makes me sad that there are SO many missed opportunities that come from the stubborn, antiquated, creaky methods still employed by the painfully out-of-date people in charge of many, if not most, Broadway endeavors. That's why there is no youth audience except for pre-sold trash, because that's all they know or care to push. The audience is smarter than anyone ever gives them credit for being. Ah, well.

Just saw this in London- the music is actually quite good.
My problem was the acting- the director needs to be shot for allowing such amateur performances to actually go on. (This applies only to some characters, and only some parts of their performances- the main offenders were mainly the repetitive and unbelievably annoying use of insane hand gestures.)
