Sister Act Moves Closing to October 30 to Find New Home

I thought it was too good to be true. Shame.

Looks like Mother's sewing machine will be overworked this Summer as I create numerous glittery nun outfits for my one man/street corner production
of Sister Act.
Once you start to spread it, Baby, if you let it, Love comes right on back to you . . .

Sister Act Moves Closing to October 30 to Find New Home

Press Release May 10th.

*********
Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment have announced that they plan to bring their production of the musical comedy 'Sister Act' to Broadway in the Spring. The musical is based on the 1992 film of the same name. The stage musical has music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner.

'Sister Act' opened at the London Palladium on 2 June 2009, following previews from 7 May, to generally good notices from the popular press:
The Evening Standard says, "It’s a wimple-wibbling, habit-forming triumph."
The Daily Mail says, "I hated its artistic laziness, its predictability, its incuriosity, its idea that disco is divine..."
The Daily Telegraph says, "Sister Act proves more enjoyable on stage than it did on film."
The Stage says, "Highly recommended."

'Sister Act':
When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be found - a convent! Disguised as a nun she quickly finds fans amongst her fellow ‘sisters’ but makes the wrong impression on the convent’s strict Mother Superior. When she turns her attention to the convent’s off-key choir, helping the nuns to find their true voices and breathing new life into the rundown neighbourhood, her cover could be blown for good. With the gang giving chase, is time running out for Deloris? Or have they underestimated the power of her new found Sisterhood?

At the recent announcment that the West End production of 'Sister Act' will play its final performance on 20 Oct 2010, Billy Taylor, CEO Stage Entertainment UK & USA, said "Forgive the pun but we’ve had a truly heavenly time at the Palladium! It was always the deal with the Really Useful Group that we would leave to make way for 'The Wizard Of Oz' and I want to thank every single person who has been involved in making 'Sister Act' such a success there. It has given us the perfect springboard for launching this uplifting show around the world, establishing 'Sister Act' as a wonderful new musical title with global potential.
We’re all very excited about the next few years and the prospect of the show running in different cities, from present London home, to Broadway and Hamburg and beyond. It’s going to be a busy few years for Deloris Van Cartier and her sisters!"

The London production of 'Sister Act' currently features Sheila Hancock as Mother Superior, Patina Miller as Deloris Van Cartier, Ian Lavender as Monsignor Howard and Chris Jarman as Shank.

'Sister Act' is directed by Peter Schneider, designed by Klara Zieglerova, choreography by Anthony Van Laast, lighting by Natasha Katz, sound by Mick Potter, Musical Director Nick Skilbeck.

That says it'll play its final performance October 20th?

I'm presuming this is a mis-print as that is a wednesday, Unless they have decided to bring the date forward to a wednesday!

The 1st and 8th were the original two closing dates and then just last week they suddenly pulled it back 2 months to the now confirmed 30th Oct.
You'll probably adjust your system soon.

You'll find its the 30th October. I had this info from a friend, from the theatre manager, on Sunday night!
Where do you work, is it a ticket agency maybe?

Friend of mine took a party to the matinee yesterday.
They were moved from rear stalls to row G centre block.
Upper circle closed.
He loved the show as did his whole party but he said he had never seen such a dead audience. Absolutely no response to anything on stage.

I think it will be a great shame if Sister Act closes. I haven't seen it yet, but the people I know who have seen it have returned...numerous times!

I guess Patina Miller is not likely to reprise her role on tour? Maybe we might get that one from the Lloyd-Webber show? :P

I've seen it 6 times and am seeing it twice this week. Once for Debbie Kurup's last show as Deloris, and next Sat. when I hope I'll get to see the current cast for the last time.

I would love for it to move and stay open in the West End for longer, but if it's not to be, it's not to be. I hope Steph from Over the Rainbow doesn't do the tour. I don't think she's right for Deloris. I don't know who else I'd want to do the role really.

There's no theatre confirmed at all. They are literally hoping something comes up soon.

There was talk of Chicago coming off but Sister Act would never fit in The Cambridge anyway.

They should never have given Flashdance the Shaftesbury - they could have transfered the show in there.

I would love for Sasha Allen to play Deloris. I absolutely loved this show, such a shame it'll be closing; I hope it definitely goes on tour.

I highly doubt that Miller will do the tour considering that she is over in an equity exchange. The only way that she will most likely play Deloris again is when the show opens up on Broadway.
