re: Sister Act - The Musical!

WOO I love this movie! I'm happy re: Sister Act - The Musical!
"It's a great feeling of power to be naked in front of people. We're happy to watch actual incredible graphic violence and gore, but as soon as somebody's naked it seems like the public goes a bit bananas about the whole thing."

I'm not as excited, unfortunately. The original movie was fun and it had great integration of Motown tuners and etc. This one is going to have a new score by Alan Menken and some other people. I won't be as pleased.

This is so exciting, however I think they should have turned Sister Act 2 into a musical, with the children in the school.

re: Sister Act - The Musical!

Interesting. Another movie into a musical...so does this mean new songs, or will they use the ones they did in the film?

re: Sister Act - The Musical!

What are you, blind? The column itself says Alan Menken and two other people are coming in to write all new songs.

re: Sister Act - The Musical!

i agree apdarcey the whole motown vibe. but dont underestimate alan menken, he can do a pretty good motown- look at the greek chorus parts for little shop of horrors. "alarm goes off at seven and you start uptown!" and all that

Tough to cast. Who could replace dear old Mary Wickes?

re: Sister Act - The Musical!

Carole Shelley needs to play the Maggie Smith character. I've long believed they were the same person anyway.

And of course, Marissa Jaret Winokur as Kathy Najimy.

Re: “What are you, blind?”

Gvendo2005, is that necessary? Yeah, EganFan2 should have actually read the thread and the link before commenting on it, but do you have to be that rude about it?

re: Sister Act - The Musical!

This makes me sick to my stomach for some reason. Trivia tidbit: Did you know that the part of Delores (Whoopi) was written for Bette Midler?

re: Sister Act - The Musical!

Well, it's not like you'd actually write a singing role for Whoopi Goldberg.

re: Sister Act - The Musical!

I would love for this to turn out well. I just hope they deviate from the movie enough to make it fresh. This is like the umpteenth Alan Menken musical in development and they never see the light of day (Kicks, Little mermaid, a musicalization of that Leap of Faith movie). I don't doubt Menken's ability to create an awesome score for this, but part of the fun of the movie was that those doo-wop numbers were turned into Jesus songs.
Hope it works.

PS - cast Lillias White or Ramona Keller!

Another bit of trivia: Suzanne Vega auditioned for Wendy Makkena's role.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I want some Kyra Da Costa in this. That woman can SING. She deserves a big Broadway role - her time to shine is here.

re: Sister Act - The Musical!

Two words:

FINALLY. MENKEN!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
