re: Sister Act the Musical--Alan Menken!

hmmmmm, Whoopi would be a tough act to follow
It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story... AGATHA CHRISTIE, Life magazine, May 14, 1956

I have been a HUGE advocate for this movie to make it to a Broadway stage. I hope it happens!!!

This could be hysterical. A kind of 'Sound Of Music' on speed. How brilliant.

Now that its been anounced that it will play at Atalanta's Alliance Theatre, anybody excited? I really want to hear some of the music becasue Menken is always good! I wonder if they have anybody in mind for the part that Whoopi played.

I've said it before...and I'll say it again.

Fredi Walker IS Delores. She would be perfection in the role.

Fredi Walker would be brillant. Originally Bette Midler was attached to the film so it wasn't written as an African American woman so Mary Testa would also be fantabulous!

It was written for Midler but Goldberg made it famous.

The role will be remembered as being for a African American woman so I'm assuming that's how it will be cast.

WOW, you are so right about Fredi Walker!!! She would fit that part perfectly. I didn't realize that the part was originally written for Midler. As awesome as it would be to see Mary Testa in that kind of role FOA is correct...it's a character that audience members will expect to be an African American.

Give America more credit, it could and hopefully will be color-blind casting. Emily Skinner, Carolee Carmello, Mary Testa, Loretta Divine, Lillias White, the sky is really the limit!

As long as they can be funny, and saaaaang!

"Alan Menken is GOD!
anything he touches is AMAZING!"

I really must agree with musicalkid.
He can musicalize ANY thing in the world, and it can come out sounding like sheer brilliance! I totally love everything he does.

Beth Fowler played one of the corus nuns in the movie so I think it would be cool is she was in the original cast. Maybe as the Mother Superior.

How about Tonya Pinkins in the lead?
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

I think it does not matter what race the character is at all. I think it would be a great role for Queen Latifah to make her broadway debut. Mary Testa would be fun too but I think with a show this popular to main stream america a huge star would be alot of fun.

This could be fun...I'll be looking forward to hearing out it goes. I could also see it being a disaster...I'm hoping for the best.
