That's ridiculous. People are so uptight.
I mean there are cigarettes that blow smoke and look kinda real (I used to teach HS and they did Grease and used them because obviously they don't want teenagers smoking), but still.

Posted: 7/9/08 at 6:07pmThis is ridiculous. As long as there is notice in the program and lobby about the use of cigarettes in the production, they should be fine.

Posted: 7/9/08 at 6:09pmUnfortunately, they are not fine. There are some other threads floating around where it was made clear that theatrical productions were not excluded from the ban.

Yes, I heard this on the news that he was going to go today. Sucks that he got denied.
A little 9 year old girl at the stagedoor (who saw it 4 times in San Fran) complained about them not smoking. She was very smart for a 9 year old.

Yeah, I am curious to see what happens when the first production decides not to go to/open in Chicago because of this...

How absolutely ricoculous!
Ah yes, smoking was never a part of mainstream culture (and even glamourized). I forgot. That is why critics and viewers praise Mad Men (great show, btw) for being so authentic. Just sayin...

No, they wouldn't (and haven't) use real cigarettes - they've always been fake. I believe it is an Equity rule that you cannot use real cigarettes on stage.
