So, which one do you think is the superior show--SNOOPY or YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN?
In my opinion, SNOOPY has better songs and a lot more fun to listen to.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 1:41pmI'd have to say I like both equally, although YAGMCH seems closer to the rhythm/sensibility of the actual Peanuts comics, to me.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 1:58pmI second SNOOPY! I think all the songs are really catchy and move a lot better then YAGMCB.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 2:45pmWhile Snoopy may be better technically, You're a Good Man is MUCH more like the actual comics, and thus better to me.
re: Snoopy vs. Charlie Brown#4
Posted: 6/22/07 at 2:51pmThe biggest drawback to YAGMCB is the amorphous Patty character. No one under the age of 70 even remembers her from the comics.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 3:34pmIf you are thinking the revival version of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, then I would choose that, because the beefed up orchestrations and added songs really make that show great. comparing original versions, though, I would choose Snoopy. I just love Dime a Dozen and I Know Now and Edgar Allen Poe...the list of great tunes goes on and on in that show. Of course I only know the book for Charlie Brown, I've never seen Snoopy, so in that regard I am not able to compare.

Well, since I was the first guy to play Woodstock in a non-Equity performance of the show, I have to say SNOOPY!
Damn, that was a long time ago.

I directed a production of Snoopy, and I love the show. The Big Bow Wow is a terrific number and a tour de force song is The Writer where Snoopy writes his novel.
It's fun!

Snoopy for me but I grew up with the TV animated version from the mid 80s (without even knowing the songs were from a live version) so the songs are ingrained in my head.

Snoopy, but I'm a bit partial. My parents met when my mom played Peppermint Patty and my dad played Snoopy in a local production in 1982. The rest is history
(no wonder I'm such a Broadway enthusiast lol)

As someone who has been in regional productions of both shows as Linus (YAGMCB) and then Snoopy (Snoopy!!!), I really prefer YAGMCB over Snoopy!!!.
Reason being is that Charlie Brown is the heart of the comic strip while Snoopy tends to be a reflection of social changes.
Snoopy is a great show, but I felt is was missing something (although Big Bow Wow was one of the best times I've ever had on stage).
I do have to admit that I prefer to listen to the London version of Snoopy!!! on cd. The music and orchestrations are better than the original versions of Snoopy and YAGMCB.
However, Lorna Luft was Peppermint Patty in Snoopy back when it was at the Lambs Theatre. I think that tops Gary Burgdoff as Charlie Brown.
Current Saying: What do you mean it isn't enough being pretty? Have you seen my headshots?!?

See, a lot of those I talk to, say it's whichever you do first or are exposed to first that oyu like the best. Kinda like JCS vs Godspell.
For me, it's YAGMCB...it was my senior thesis in High School.

SNOOPY!!!
Big Bow Wow is one of my favorite songs. So cute.

SNOOPY's music is definitely a lot of fun. As I said in my other thread, it's one the few shows I've been in where the music and the plot isn't driving me crazy. "Edgar Allan Poe", "Clouds", and "Poor Sweet Baby" are my favorite numbers from the show. And, I guess I have to say "The Vigil" is too, because it's my own number and I'm finally doing it some justice.
Luckily, there's a slew of good songs which beats out the if-I-have-to-sing-this-again-I'm-going-to-kill-myself "Don't Be Anything Less".

Yeah, but Bob Balaban was Snoopy, as well, and the two of them together beat Garland Lite.

Posted: 6/23/07 at 9:41amMy question music and everything aside which has a better book? I know YAGMCB because i've seen it and I was in it. Is Snoopy so random and unenjoyable. I guess I like the songs from YAGMCB but the in between stuff is not to appealing to me.

Who are you calling amorphous?
re: Snoopy vs. Charlie Brown#17
Posted: 6/23/07 at 10:01amAfter doing both several times with children, the revival of Charlie Brown is superior. Especially with "My New Philosophy," "Beethoven Day," and the new opening. Granted Snoopy is the funnier, less depressing character.
