The pregnancy is the reason that Larkin and Sir Harry care so much that the prince and Winnifred get married.
I directed this (a hundred years ago) at my middle school -- the principal didn't care about the pregnancy -- he wanted me to.....
Wait for it.........
CHANGE THE TITLE!!!! Not kidding. He thought he would get complaints.
Thud.
^ I think that's a win for changes. Wow. I wish I could remember things about the show better now. There is a possibility nothing was changed because we did Guys and Dolls and one of the Runyonland characters was an obvious drunk, and one of those people was credited as being a hooker in that scene.
Now, I went back to see their production this year and there are no credits as to where they got the rights to do the show, and they took a summary off of wikipedia for the program. Someone got lazy and doesn't care.
dramamama611, I've heard of other schools doing that, too. Mostly because of school principals who aren't familiar with the show, but think the title is too risque. Our school's principal won't let us do Rent: School Edition, even though he probably hasn't seen the show and definately isn't aware of the changes in the script.
