No one is above the law....
Drabinsky conviction
Oh, I'm sure there will be an appeal but I don't believe it will be successful. The grounds for a reversal are pretty definedd in Ontario.
So, any one else see the "Prisoners of Love" scene from Prodecers in their heads?
Well they are already out on bail pending appeal of the sentence (as well as the conviction).
What goes around comes around. Who have believed more than a dozen years ago when Ragtime was in development in Toronto with lots of Broadway buzz that Drabinsky would end up like this.
Tag, they are *still* out on bail but depending on the delays from the defence the appeal hearing should be w/in 6 months. Obviously I haven't read the transcripts ( not published yet) of the trial but I suspect the grounds for reversal are not there and our Max and Leo will see 2010 in the "joint".

Decades before that, Garth had been involved in all sorts of unseemly business.
A friend of mine was hired by Drabinsky to write a book on Garth. Garth told him he hated the book, but was going to publish it anyway - and not pay for it. My friend tells me he told Mr. D. that was illegal and he was strongly advised that if he said anything, they would sue him over and over, basically coming after his house. This was a middle-class high school teacher who wrote books on the side, suddenly facing the fangs of a shark entertainment lawyer with endless resources.
That's just one story in the Naked City, kiddies. There are hundreds of of others.
Seven years is not long enough for what he did to my friend, let alone all those investors.
