This production broke my heart about ten times in one evening. I have never seen such a great ensemble cast. Best production of Chekhov I have ever seen.
Heartbreaking, heartbreaking, heartbreaking.

Saw it yesterday and it was excruciating. Couldn't stand the direction, the acting, the translation. Painful to sit through.
It would be nice if they picked a time period and stuck with it.

Um...what??? And what exactly was "terrible" about the acting and direction?

The production was nailed to one slow and deliberate speed that started to drive me crazy. I understand that it's about ennui but I've never been bored reading the play. The play is bleak but it's also charming and often funny. Not this production.

I found it sluggish and dull.
Just because the costumes were clearly a chosen period, does not mean the performances were. Jessica was in the early 1900's. Juliet Rylance was in the Elizabethan period. And Maggie Gyllenhaal was modern. It was bizarre.
And that translation... Oh. God.
