Lithgow's Dahl is a pleasant but dangerous monster, who spews venom at Israel (some of reasonable) but clearly and unambiguously hates Jewish people, regardless of their affiliation with the Israeli government. The play ends with his VERBATIM statements about how Hitler's genocide of the Jews makes a sort of sense to him.

Anyone who walked out thinking the play is "woke" or insufficiently disgusted with antisemitism, missed the point just as much as those who left nodding along to Dahl's vitriol.
"

Or the play is well written enough to encompass multiple points of view in its debate about Israel, even operating through its bigoted main character. Lithgow and Rosenblatt's "Dahl" sees himself as a defender of children, of innocents, and perhaps a victimized child himself. Israel to him is the ultimate bullying adult. That belief coexists within him with a visceral fear and hatred of Jews. It's a complex portrait and a complex moment in Jewish diasporic history. The play isn't perfect but it attempts to address this troubling moment as no other contemporary commercial play has.

Trump Takeover of the country

Back Row said: "If you think for one minute that this guy is going to honor any judge’s order, you haven’t been paying attention. His workaround may be to demolish the Kennedy Center completely so he can replace it with another hideous monument to himself, but trust me, compliance is not on the menu."

No, Trump does comply with (or backs down from) the majority of legal rulings made against him. It’s a propaganda victory to make it seem like th

Interested buyers will submit their own bids and proposals after viewing all the paperwork and details of the sale, and then ATG will decide who they want to sell to. It’s not a traditional auction in the “highest bidder wins” sense. There’s a lot of factors, like what they plan to do with

TOP HAT proshot on Great Performances TONIGHT - set the DVR

What I found odd about the production is that in the original film the Brits are caricatured like the glorious Eric Blore as the valet. But in the UK Chichester production it felt like the Yanks were being leaned into as cartoon characters.

If the anti-Zionism of Rosenblatt and Lithgow's "Dahl" is nothing more than true bigotry and a paranoid delusion there would have been no play. The activating power of the play a

It's not the point, but it's such a hot button issue that it feels weird to have it as a prop to get to a character study on this fascinatingly flawed person. Not sure how they could have averted this though, given the real facts of Dahl's life."

Israel/Palestine is at the center of the play, I think. Are diasporic Jews associated with the actions of Israel whether they/we like it or not.

Tom is rather posh but it’s also a running gag Rosenblatt uses to deflate Dahl’s and others’ idea of Jew

MJ The Musical

It’s a pity the Trump Kennedy Center closed before this musical could take up a permanent residency there.

Saudi Arabia Deal with the Met falls through

They never had a deal. It was in shaky ground months after it had been announced. As to 200 million, it started as being reported as 100 million and now is being reported as an "up to 200 million" deal. So who knows what was really being considered.

The Met was in a state of financial crisis before this illusory deal popped like a bubble.

Will the Tony Awards renew their contract with CBS?

John Adams said: "James885 said: "The best scenario would be if theTonytelecast were to follow the Oscars to YouTube. Being on the top (as in most watched) streaming platform would likely gain it more viewers than being on CBS / Paramount Plus."

It is too early, and there are changes coming to OTA TV (ATSC 3.0) that muddy the waters re: making that decision, IMO. In my personal viewpoint, I choose to drop the Networks to last on the totem pole regarding importance in the decision.

I think it's relevant, in discussing YouTube to be more specific prior to suggesting The Tonys follow the Oscars. YouTube is no longer the singular entity most people are familiar with (meaning the branch of YouTube that's used for video sharing). Yet, people still speak (misleadingly) as if they are.

Many TV shows currently have their own channels on YouTube where they upload content (commercial-free) for sharing, but if awards shows move to YouTube's sharing platformbeforethey've been broadcast OTA (including the money-generating commercials), I can see "opportunities" lighting up in the eyes of [whomever- fill in the blank].

In regards to The Oscars, I'm wary of being told in the L.A. Times : "The show, including red carpet coverage and behind-the-scenes access, will stream live on YouTube around the world, with U.S. viewers also able to watch via YouTube TV." ...YouTube and YouTube TV are two, separate parts of the company - and one requires a subscription.

PBS reports more specifically:"The Academy Awards will stream for free worldwide on YouTube, in addition to YouTube TV subscribers."

There's also the corporate merger(s) to be sorted out before considering where The Oscars or The Tonys will eventually land.

IMO, there's a lot to be sorted, but I don't think Networks matter that much anymore.
"

Good points. I do think though that the networks still do matter to an older demographic that votes in elections so it still has value as a political market. But that is probably decreasing even in that value each year.

Paul Giamatti, John Turturro, and Tatiana Maslany to star in Ionesco’s RHINOCEROS at the A.R.T., dir. Diane Paulus.

Yes, I am aware that the play was a response to fascism. Where are the new American plays about the current American fascism?

Paul Giamatti, John Turturro, and Tatiana Maslany to star in Ionesco’s RHINOCEROS at the A.R.T., dir. Diane Paulus.

The production at Yale Rep used an adaptation by Frank Galati, not sure if this will be used by Paulus and co. I didn’t love the adaptation (lots of what felt like extraneous topical jokes to update the play) but I’m not familiar with the original text so who knows. After seeing it there’s definitely some overlap with the MAGA menace but it also felt like the wrong metaphor… it’s not so much about fascism specifically as about the power of social conformity. Will the Tony Awards renew their contract with CBS?

I don't think the Tonys hold any kind of a winning hand that would allow them to choose between networks or streaming services. It's a money loser and is locked in to an aging non-ad friendly audience on network TV.  Staying with CBS or any network TV might be comfortable in the short term but it is forestalling the inevitable. A move to streaming as the Oscars is doing might be rough for a number of years or maybe even a serious risk but it would bring the award ceremonies to a
