A style somewhere between Robert Aldrich's What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and Ken Russell's The Boyfriend is what's needed.
In my dream of dreams, the Follies movie plays out as it does on stage, but throughout the movie, as more lies and feelings are expressed by the characters, more and more cracks appear in the floor and walls with light flowing out of them, and in the lead-up to the Loveland transition, the cracks appear more rapidly and in greater volume until the entire theatre around them falls apart and reveals Loveland.
