Sondheim on Sondheim - Tony chances?

I know the Oscars require that a song be not only new, but written specifically for the movie. I imagine that the Tonys have a similar standard when evaluating a score's eligibility, although maybe not so strict.

I'm sure they're not as strict as the Oscars (my goodness, "Falling Slowly," the song that won a couple years ago, was almost deemed ineligible because they were afraid it wasn't written for the film [which it clearly was]).

I am more interested in which musical will win best revival, I guess there is only 5 productions this season that have revived, Finan's Rainbow, Ragtime, A Little Night Music, La Cage Aux Folles & Bye Bye Birdie, from what I have read all deserve to be nominated except the former.

It would be a travesty if La Cage Aux Folles did not win best revival, if it is as good as the London production, especially as the last inadequate revival six years ago took the Tony.

You left out PROMISES, PROMISES, Phantom of London.

Thanks

I did not think Promises, Promises would be eligible for this season, alright I really forgot laughing out, lol.

So Bye Bye Birdie, Ragtime, Finan's Rainbow, A Little Night Music, La Cage Aux Folles and Promises, Promises are up for the best revival Tony, what 4 do you think should be nominated?

Don't you think La Cage winning best revival only a couple of years ago could hurt its chances?
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

To be honest, yes.
Can you imagine La Cage winning 3 for 3 production Tony Awards while the one it beat, Sunday in the Park With George, went 0 for 2? That would be a sad statistic.
