Hi there !
On the newsletter from this site www.soundofmusic.de, I read that the remasterised OBC of Sweeney Todd, Into the woods, Sunday in the Park and (I don't remember the last) with new stuff will be suspected to be available at the end of the month...
As I can't find any informations on Amazon, did you have some news about it ?

Hahah yeah apparantly they WILL be available at the end of March officially. This is what I heard on the SOndheim forum in Jan... But as nothing popped up on Amazon pre orders I was/am getting worried again
(Merrily is the fourth one--too bad RCA is ignoring Pacific Overtures which arguably needs the remastering the most but undoubtedly sells the least)

So CDUniverse is listing them? Does it list the specs (ie officially the new songs) or anything else to make it seem pretty likely they are legit? Seems odd that Amazon wouldn't have it seeing as this is BMG...
I know in the past--CDUniverse has been slower to get their info right, but I coul dbe proven wrong...

I agree about the crappy extras. I would have loved to get a few trunks instead. But already released stuff. Ugh!
Except of course ITW.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 1:55pmWell, some of the extras have been taken straight from other Sondheim collections (i.e. the Carnegie Hall recording or PUTTING IT TOGETHER, the off-Broadway revue) so I do not see the point in including them on this re-issues. INTO THE WOODS got the best extras with Kim Crosby doing "Back to the Palace" and the dismissed "Boom, Crunch" that gave way to the fantastic "Last Midnight."

Masterworks Broadway will release digitally remastered versions of the original cast recordings of Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George and Merrily We Roll Along.
The four discs will all boast bonus tracks and will feature new liner notes penned by director Richard Jay-Alexander. The Sondheim recordings are set to arrive in stores March 20.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 4:37pmIf these albums are available on iTunes, I'll just pick up the extra songs there. Into the Woods is the only one with enough new material to make it worth my while, especially when I just bought all of these shows over the past 3 years.

Im looking forward to the remastering. I have the original CD pressings of all these Cds, but Merrily and Sweeney arent the greatest quality in the world. Id like to hear the original cast recording of Merrily with better mastering, im really looking forward to that.
And the OBC of Sweeney is one of the most complete, isn't it?

Posted: 3/14/07 at 4:45pmUgh - I won't get excited until the CD is in my car on the way home . . . too much disappointment - I think about four times so far.

I'm pretty disappointed with Amazon's slowness on this... I get free shipping thru them too so... (I agree Merrily and Sweeney are the only ones that massively need remastering--Sunday may have low recording levels but was digitally recorded for CD originally--I wish Pacific Overtures was included *repeats*--and yeah the extras are more disappointing than I expected)

I think Sweeney Todd's cast album has a nice sound, but after all these years, it could use a remastering. Merrily on the other hand...
I'm quite exited about this, particularly Sunday in the Park... which I once had on CD but I have unfortunately lost. It'll be nice to have it back finally!

Posted: 3/17/07 at 7:46pmI'm not sure if remastering will help Merrily too much--you can tell the recording was really rushed - it's one of Sheperd's (I believe he was the producer) sloppiest recordings--missed notes, a really deep echoey sound etc--
