re: Songs That Make You Cry No Matter How Many Times You Listen to them....

I have to be in the right mood, but sometimes, if I am particularly nostalgic and recall my feelings seeing a particular show the first time, these will get to me:

One Day More - Les Miserables
Tell Me It's Not True - Blood Brothers
I'll Cover You (reprise) - Rent
Finale B - Rent
The Old Red Hills of Home - Parade
I Hate the Bus - Caroline, or Change
The Circle of Life - The Lion King
Father to Son - Falsettos
Listening to You - Tommy

Non-musical theatre:

Annie's Song - John Denver
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian

Look Over There and Song On the Sand - La Cage
I Have a Love - West Side Story
A Little Fall of Rain - Les Mis
At the Ballet - Chorus Line
This Nearly Was Mine - South Pacific

Also another vote for "Puff the Magic Dragon" -- specifically starting with "his head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain".

Definitely A Little Fall Of Rain from Les Miz and also One Day More. (But only Live...)

A Change In Me from Beauty and the Beast.
(Only the less belty versions of the song, even though the grander, beltier ones later on in the production totally blew me away.)

And I know this has nothing to do with how many times I listened to it, but when the cast sang What I Did For Love at closing night of A Chorus Line, I was crying SO hard. And seeing them cry made me cry even harder. Aw, I'm getting choked up thinking about it all over again!

I'll Cover You (Reprise) ...I cry when everyone comes in with the back up.

For Good (it is very symbolic of my divorce)

I Dreamed a Dream (only when performed by Miss LuPone, and I cry when she sings, "so different from this Hell I'm living...)

Ok, now I'm crying!

re: Songs That Make You Cry No Matter How Many Times You Listen to them....

I can't say that there are songs that always make me cry but there are some that get to me based on my mood or what's going on around me. Earlier this month I was at a performance of "The Marvelous Wonderettes" which is a "feel good musical". But the night before I'd had my heart tromped upon tremendously and when Victoria Matlock goes into "Maybe" in Act II I just could not hold it together.
