Whatever Lola Wants, Aquarius, Feeling Good (just found out on this thread), Put on a Happy Face, and Tea for Two. There are probably more that I don't know about.

Ditto to "Anything You Can Do..."

When I was growing up, we had like a KidSongs music video thing where it was a bunch of teenagers playing SkeeBall against each other. That's what I thought it came from.

When I was younger, I didn't know that "Not While I'm Around" was from a musical.

I also didn't know until a few years ago that "We Need A Little Christmas" came from MAME. I adore the version on 'that site' from this past December (after the strike ended) that features Ms. Landsbury and the stars from all the musicals on Broadway.

Oh, and 'Til There Was You'. It was a Beatles song in my mind. ^_^

"I also didn't know that Put on a Happy Face was from Bye Bye Birdie."

Did you know that Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, who wrote Birdie (and Applause), also wrote the theme song from "All in the Family"? They did.

"I never knew that Anything you Can Do (I Can do Better) was from Annie Get Your Gun.

I also didn't know that Put on a Happy Face was from Bye Bye Birdie."

Ditto on both accounts. Also, growing up I didn't know "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" was from Dreamgirls.

Oh, and "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha Updated On: 8/4/08 at 03:39 PM

I never knew "It's Delovely" was from Anything Goes.

Mine are kind of shameful, as I truly had no idea they were from their respective musicals until about a year ago. But... "Some Enchanted Evening" from South Pacific. I had always heard it but didn't know it was Broadway. The same goes for "Unusual Way" from Nine. Had no idea, yet when I listened to the Nine Revival Recording recently, I was shocked to hear Benanti belt out such a familiar tune.

"Almost Like Being in Love" from Brigadoon. I used to think that it was just a Nat King Cole and Sinatra song.

"Get Me To The Church On Time" from My Fair Lady.

Even though I had seen the movie, I still thought for the longest time that this was a song people sang on or before their wedding.

I have a similar one, Degrassifan. Even though I saw the movie of Sound of Music several times from a very young age, I never realized that Edelweiss was written specifically for the musical until I was older. I guess that it seemed like such a timeless song, so I thought it had already existed before the show was written.

I also agree with Put on a Happy Face and Impossible Dream.

Some very well-known songs from some (mostly) obscure shows, but they're all Broadway:

"Give My Regards to Broadway" (Little Johnny Jones/George M!)
"I'll Be Seeing You" (Right This Way)
"Falling in Love With Love" (The Boys From Syracuse)
"Love Makes the World Go Round" (Carnival!)
"The Lady Is a Tramp" (Babes in Arms)
"Who Can I Turn To" (The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd)
"I'll Never Fall in Love Again" (Promises, Promises)
"Just in Time" (Bells Are Ringing)
"Send in the Clowns" (A Little Night Music)
"Love Changes Everything" (Aspects of Love)
"September Song" (Knickerbocker Holiday)
"All the Things You Are" (Very Warm for May)
"Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" (Roberta)
"Real Live Girl" (Little Me)
"It's All Right With Me" (Can-Can)
"The Party's Over" (Bells Are Ringing)

Don't feel bad about this one. Lots of people also thought that "Edelweiss" was Austria's National Anthem. I guess this just shows how Rodgers and Hammerstein were geniuses.

Another one I thought of is "I Enjoy Being a Girl." I had no clue till recently that this was from "Flower Drum Song." Also with "Anything You can Do (I Can Do Better)." There are probably lots of others that I'm forgetting.

I know many who don't know songs like Summertime, Someone to Watch Over Me, Night & Day, etc are from musicals/operas. They seem shocked.

I also didn't know Feelin' Good was from a musical until a few months ago..but I'd also never heard the song before.

I was listening to the Broadway channel on XM the other day, and Tea for Two came on. Had no idea it was from No No Nanette!

Also didn't know One Night In Bangkok, Send In the Clowns, and Aquarius were from musicals, to name a few.

For some reason when I was a kid, I got a hold of a Cowsills Greatest Hits CD. I always thought Hair borrowed it from them, not the other way around. :P
