I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT THAT! My best friend and I used to call him Franklin Leo Butz, hahaha. I love his voice, it's beautiful.

and I agree his voice DOES resemble Norbert's...

I kind of thought that too. The songs are also a little similar to some of the Jamie songs from L5Y. I'm obsessed with this cd though. JRB is genius!

I have a bunch of friends who are JRB-philes and that topic has come up before. Actually, if you think about it, it almost sounds like Man 1 is the prototypical Jamie, and Woman 2 is the precursor to Kathy. "She Cries" and "The World Was Dancing" sort of strike me as in line with Jamie's character, and "I'm Not Afraid" struck me like "A Part Of That" as far as the message of worrying about whether the guy truly loves her or not. I mean, I know its impossible for Jamie and Kathy to have been lifted right from Man 1 and Woman 2, I'm just saying there are similarities.

I dunno, I could be a total dummy on this. For all I know, JRB himself could post on this board and tell me what an idiot I am. It may serve me right. But yea, Brooks Ashmanskas totally sounds like Norb (as I like to think I'd call him if/when we became close friends lol).

I still haven't been able to listen to this CD all the way through. Just doesnt grasp me, I guess its the lack of storyline - which, duh, being a song cycle it doesn't have one, but I just don't find the songs that compelling. But Brooks has an amazing voice. I didn't think his voice matched the way he looks, if that makes sense.

he does remind me so much of norbert. he was (or still is?) in the producers. i saw him and thought he was hillarious. he didn't get to show of his amazing norbert-type voice though.

I love this cd. But I never listen to all the songs. I love some and don't like others. Weird.
