I was checking on the list of Broadway shows on TDF.org and it showed
South Pacific closing on 07/05/09. Is this true? somebody confirm it please
hmm, its still there
I don't know why they would close if they still bring in great numbers
Telecharge is selling tickets through September 6th.
I don't see it on TDF...
This isn't another one of those situations where we have to explain the difference between "closing" and "booking until", is it?

NOPE i understand the difference but all other shows says OPEN RUN and for some odd reason South Pacific says it's closing on that date. i searched on telecharge and they are selling tickets for later dates so I don't understand
Here is the link to the page i saw it in: http://tdf.org/TDF_ShowsSearchResults.aspx
We cannot confirm something that is not true. Mistakes happen.
I'm thinking maybe that it is a typo or something of that nature.

i just didn't know if it was real or a mistake. doesn't make sense
Well - if they don't find a better replacement for Matthew Morrison SOON, then maybe it will be closing. Andrew Samonsky was pretty terrible.
TDF has wrong dates for things all the time. All you do is send them a polite e-mail and then they yell at you. It's happened to me several times when I just wanted them to know they were selling tickets to performances that didn't exist.

The show was originally scheduled to close n July 5th. It is now an open-ended run.

this is probably going to get me skewered, but:
speaking as a part-time curmudgeon, and (more importantly) a full-time LCT member of long-standing, i actually wouldn't mind if this show ended its run, or -- better yet -- if they moved it to another house. i am aching to see something new in the beaumont.
fire away ...
saw the show for the first time last week. felt like the remnants of an amazing production that was being heeeeavily dragged down by a couple weak replacements. I suppose it was really only Andrew Samonsky and Laura Osnes that dragged, but the effect was excruciatingly obvious to me and it seemed to the rest of the audience (andrew samonsky got a few quite audible derisive laughs on some of his spectactularly awful line readings). However, the show still deserves to be running just for the brilliant performances coming from Danny Burstein and Paolo Szot. They are perfect.
What a shame to hear, Tevye. I truly thought SP was the closest thing to theatrical perfection I'd ever experienced. I saw this last April, I think...but definitely with the original revival cast.
And Whatever....I love that theater, I understand your intent.
I love excessive use of !?!??!!?!?!?!?!?!?

When I saw one of Samonsky's first performances, when he was still just understudying Cable, I thought he was preferable to Morrison. And I could detect no derision from the house. One person's opinion does not necessarily mean this production is on the skids.

For what it's worth, Playbill still has it listed as "open run".
I agree with Tevye. Andrew playing Lt. Cable took me right out of the show and I sat there wondering "Why is he saying all of his lines like that? No emotion, no feeling - it's like he's bitterly spitting them out!" There were several groans and I myself had a hand-to-forehead slap on one delivery. I thought his singing was great, but it was just his book scenes that threw his performance to the dogs for me. I thought the rest of the production was beautiful, and I even liked Laura Osnes (having nothing to compare her to) and thought she did a fine job as Nellie. But . . . as for Lt. Cable, I for one didn't mind what happened to him at the end of the show.
well when i just checked it out, there is nothing posted anymore. maybe they removed it.
agree about his singing. his voice was fantastic, and his character showed brief glimpses of coming alive. Perhaps he is taking the "shell-shocked Cable" thing just way too far in the book scenes, but idk...in his first office scene with Brackett and Harbison, the actors playing those roles seemed almost, i'm not positive how to phrase this, but wary of him...they definitely steered clear of "playing" with him, as he was playing his role without any awareness for his scene partners. He seemed to want to internalize everything instead of act with intention.
