South Pacific Is Coming To Toronto...Because Of Dancap

Here is the article from The Star:
http://www.thestar.com/article/699443

South Pacific is going to play at the Four Seasons?! Interesting...I think its a gamble for Dancap, (as the article talks about the cost for the venue, etc) but I'm very happy this show is coming to Toronto! I think if this works out for Dancap, then they will be in great competition with Mirvish again.

The show wouldn't be in Toronto probably until August 2010, as South Pacific is playing LA from May 27-July 17 and Dever July 20-August 1.

South Pacific is sure to do well here. I saw the revival in NY and it was great. So, I remember that Dancap said they have the tcfta until some time in 2010. Does anybody know if they've extended that? Has Dancap gotten an arrangement with the Sony Centre to put productions? Wow, I hope Dancap brings more great shows next summer!

200K a WEEK for rent? Plus the guarantee for the show?! Dancap's going to have to sell 95% of that house to make a TINY profit.

Unless the numbers change... yikes.

I'm curious if that 200K is a typo or wrong. That seems like WAY too much. I know the Elgin rents for 14K a week, so how could the FSC be THAT much more?
I don't think it would be that hard to sell out. It is only 2000 seats. There will be a general interest in going to the opera house for people that wouldn't normally go there for the opera or ballet. I'm sure there will be some premium ticketing as well in the Grand Ring. The show might get swallowed up by the stage though, it is pretty large. The tour cast/crew is going to be spoiled in the backstage facilities though!

I'm very much looking forward to seeing South Pacific. The last time I was in NYC (a year and a half ago) it was sold out, but I did the Lincoln Center tour and saw the Vivian Beaumont theatre and wished I could have seen the production. I was a bit disappointed in the cast CD, however, but am totally game for the tour cast (whoever they are).

I think it's good news that Dancap plans to book shows in the Four Seasons over the summer. As one of the articles suggested, some of us are old enough to remember when touring shows were booked into the O'Keefe Centre over the summer. My first "Broadway" experience was those summer tours. La Cage Aux Folles and Evita were the first two shows I saw.

Although I've been to the Four Seasons Centre during their open house, I've never actually seen a show there. I look forward to South Pacific next summer.
