I grabbed a last-minute ticket to Hair as well...didn't see any of those people there, oh well. Maybe the cast messed up Heather's hair and she got pissed?
While it may not have had the same excitement as WSS or N2N, I still thought it was a really exciting performance. We all screamed as soon as the lights went out, and then at the beginning of Berger's monologue, someone in the mezz screamed out "Tony winners!" and everybody cheered, and the cast loved it, and the applause after "Hair" definitely lasted longer than usual.
Re: Gavin's monologue...I think he accidentally started with "my name is" instead of "I am a human being..." but then one of the tribe called something out after he said "My name is..." did anyone there hear what he said? Claude? Gavin? Whatever it was, Gavin & the cast & the audience cracked up, and then he started over.
And I got an added bonus of Will completely groping my hair, so that added to my excitement level.
But the cast was adorable at the stage door -- some of them said they still couldn't believe it, others were like "We danced with LIZA!," you could tell how much they loved performing and winning.
It was a great night, and a special performance (my first post-Tony performance, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I still thought it rocked).
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
