So, what should Sutton Foster do next?
#0So, what should Sutton Foster do next?
Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:02pmShe became a major Broadway player with Millie and followed it up with a major disappointment with Little Women. I don't think star is tarnished in the least but her next choice could be critical. What do you think she should do next? Star in a revival? Try another new musical? Take a replacement job in a major Broadway show? Should she play if safe or throw caution to the wind when choosing her next role?

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:03pmI think that she should be in a revival or a new musical, but I heard that she's taking a break.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:03pmShe should take some time off and then come back in a new musical or revival of one.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:07pmI don't care what she does as long as she comes back!

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:10pmI think she would be grossly miscast as Mary Poppins.

Mary Poppins.
Or if she wants to take some more legit work, albeit in a much smaller role than her previous work, score the role of Petra the maid in an all-star revival of "A Little Night Music."
Her voice would be PERFECT for "The Miller's Son."

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:16pmi never saw her as Poppins! Besides it's in Laura Michelle Kellys contract that she gets the Broadway debut!

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:18pmMeh...maybe if Sutton had a talk with Glen Close she'd be able to inch herself in...

She'll be playing Olive Oyl in the new Popeye musical.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:20pmOr how about the life story of Carol Burnett. That is all I thought about while watching Little Women, how much she reminded me of Burnett in one of her sketches.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:23pmTake over from Erin Dilly in "Chitty..." (If it lasts long enough). Or perhaps do a "Chitty" tour.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:24pmI agree with whomever said she'd be grossly miscast as Mary Poppins. She doesn't have the right look or voice for the role. She's a good singer. Just not for Poppins.

LITTLE WOMEN may have been a major dissapointment, but she escaped from it still smelling like a rose. It won't effect her career in the slightest.
She would be terribly miscast as Mary Poppins, but the point is moot. Laura Michelle Kelly is bringing the role to Broadway.

She should do the tour of LITTLE WOMEN to start. It would be extremely smart for her to build her following outside of New York.
She's way too perky for something like Mary Poppins. The stage production is much darker then the original film.
She should probably try to do a little film and television work and find a new vehicle (not a revival) to return to Broadway in.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:55pmI'm surprised she hasn't been offered a sitcom.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:56pmI love sutton but I think it would not further her career to do a tour of any show, nor should she be a replacement. She has been in two shows, recieved good reviews in both, and got tony nominations for both shows. The girl is hot right now. She needs to continue the success in NY and get out in another show that really shows off how amazing she is!

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:00pmthat's a little over the top... she doesn't sing, act or dance anything like Kristin. They look completely different too.
#22re: So, what should Sutton Foster do next?
Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:00pmAnd she's pretty tall too. Oh she's far less annoying than Kristin Chernobyl. She could be the gangly best friend, or something like that.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:01pmUMG -- Stars like Mary Martin and Ethel Merman, Helen Hayes and Julie Harris partly created their status as Broadway legends by going on the road with their vehicles. Just as rock stars simply have to tour if they want to have a lengthy career. Its a smart PR move.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:03pmI reckon she should do a tour... how many time is she gonna get the opportunity to create a role on Broadway? She'll need to keep bumping up her cv too!
