re: Spamalot?

I know that yankeefan and I are both huge fans of this show, so your attempts at "riling us up" are irrelevant.

You never had a case, Cheese. You're just a miserable hater. You too, Frog_Face.

I just want to know how stating fact is considered "Spin."

re: Spamalot?

Yankeefan, don't even waste your energy. It's no use. re: Spamalot?

"Yankeefan, don't even waste your energy."

Good plan. I'm laughing at the spin because citing percentages from 2005 when Spamalot first opened on Broadway 3 years ago is so pathetic that its funny as hell.
#32

re: Spamalot?

The reason for citing the percentages from when it first opened was to show that since its opening, sales have decreased.

I'm laughing because your attempt at trying to accuse people of placing negative spin on a show is not valid, which "is so pathetic that it's funny as hell"...no one is saying the show is doing lousy.

Well Duh! Way to state the obvious! It's normal for sales to decrease years after the show debuted. Sheesh!

re: Spamalot?

So how are people trying to "spin" that into a bad thing if it is really that obvious?

re: Spamalot?

I believe Yankee was using FACT to back up the claim that "Spamalot isn't selling as well as it used to." It USED to sell in the 100%s... now it doesn't.

And I'm a big fan of the show, so please don't call me a "hater".
Call the understudy / I can't go on tonight / I'm drinking with my buddy / I'm getting good and tight / Before they raise the curtain I'll be higher than a kite / So call the understudy I can't go on tonight

That's why its so stupid. Quick! Somebody post that the sun will rise tomorrow and that you are older today than you were yesterday. It doesn't take much to amaze some of you.

Wow, I expected the numbers to be better than that with Clay around. Oh well.

re: Spamalot?

I'm surprised too that Clay hasn't drawn better crowds. I don't know if the producers are a bit disappointed, but normally that's a standard expectation of stunt casting, isn't it?
#39

re: Spamalot?

Oh goody! The fake concern about only 91.6% attendance. Poor producers only made 800,000 dollars last week. OMG! What will they do now? Don't let them near any sharp objects!

re: Spamalot?

Sometimes I can only say, "With fans like that, Clay doesn't need enemies." Talk about overreacting to simple comments that were not big insults.

Awwww. Poor babies. So sensitive and fragile. That Clay Aiken guy needs to fire all of his fans. That is the only acceptable outcome, if you ask the haters. LMAO

Insults are insults, dominique. Who cares what size they are?

re: Spamalot?

Clay's fans have always done more harm than good for his career. They (accompanied by his refusal to record anything, of late, that isn't crap elevator music) are a big part of why he doesn't get any radioplay, though they'd rather blame on the big bad entertainment industry rallying against him.

re: Spamalot?

It must really disappoint the haters that Clay is doing so well. They have to resort to attacking his fans and putting down his music. Can you say desperate? I can!

"Clay's fans have always done more harm than good for his career."

Do you mean the time you showed up in a Santa suit at the Beacon theater after one of his concerts and ruined it for everyone by rushing him and pushing over the barracade? Or do you mean all of the times you were at every NYC TV taping and shoving your way to the front so you could get your mug on camera? Yeah, you do more harm than good, Kelly.

"Or do you mean all of the times you were at every NYC TV taping and shoving your way to the front so you could get your mug on camera?"

The only TV taping I've EVER been to of his was at Good Morning America, and a family friend of mine got me passes very early on, so I was in the building for the entire thing, rehearsal included. So, if I was in the front, it was only because I was lucky enough to be granted a different kind of admission than others.

Personally attacking me doesn't change the fact that I haven't heard one of his songs on the radio since 2005.

I also don't own a Santa Suit...so, really.

But whatever, y'all have a blast seeing Spamalot 500 times.

Just because you didn't have a white beard or a pillow under your jacket doesn't mean it wasn't a santa suit. But whatever.

"I haven't heard one of his songs on the radio since 2005."

Big deal! There are hundreds and thousands of successful artists and bands you'll never hear on the radio. That's what's wrong with the music industry, you used to hear all kinds and genres of music years ago. Now they can't figure out why they aren't selling so well as they used to. Duh! Nobody hears them! You hear the same 10 songs over and over. I'm so sick of Rihanna, Beyonce, Justin T, Nickelback, and all that Rap.

Think about this, there are over 35,000 CDs released each year. 34,990 are not going to get on the radio. The Eagles, Paul McCartney, Dylan and Elton John are legends that put out new music. You don't hear their songs either. Radio killed itself and the music labels are too stupid to realize what is wrong.

You can blame whatever you want, but the radio plays what's popular. I hear Miley Cyrus all the time and her music is pure pop, no r&b, no rap.

Okay, but when The Eagles, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Dylan, etc. were in their hey day and were still releasing new material, they were on the radio ALL THE TIME. So, it's not really a comparable situation to Clay's. When they were at his current stage in their careers, they had much more radioplay.

re: Spamalot?

"Well Duh! Way to state the obvious! It's normal for sales to decrease years after the show debuted. Sheesh!"

Tell that to Wicked, Jersey Boys, Spring Awakening and The Lion King. And other shows took over a decade to start decreasing. Just ask The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Cats, to name a few.

The fact is, the occasional sold-out performance (even shows with only 40% attendance can have sold-out performances occasionally) is not indicative of the show's performance for the week. I've worked at shows where we had to close the balcony because it wasn't sold to the very next performance being sold out. The weekly reported grosses (which are from the show's producers, not some made up numbers) are averages for the week. A show with 70% attendance could easily have three sold-out shows and 5 half-empty shows. It's not called spin. Spin is when you justify such figures, which no one here did. They merely pointed out the availability of tickets. We are in Spring Break season, all shows are seeing a bump in attendance, which will continue through the summer. I think you are just mad because it is the trend on Broadway and you can't specifically attribute it to Clay Aiken, who by the way did not help Spamalot's box office the way it was intended.

re: Spamalot?

Anyway... I loved Spamalot!!! I went with my husband and we never laughed so much. I had seen Spam once before when David Hyde Pierce was in it, and swore that I'd see it again because it was so much fun.

I love the new cast... Tom Deckman is the funniest cartoon character ever, Chris Sieber is a big Dudley DoRight, Rick Holmes is stomach-hurting funny as the Taunter and Knight of Ni, Hannah Waddingham is brilliant as LOTL- her voice is amazing, and she's gorgeous! David Hibbard is so loveable as Patsy, and Clay Aiken is hysterically funny as Sir Robin, Brother Maynard, and the dopey Guard. My husband remarked that he wanted to hear Clay sing more.

I wish there was a new Spamalot movie with this particular cast- it would be so awesome!!!

As you can see, this is my 1st post. I hope to write more about other shows that I see in the future. And I hope I don't slammed for this one.
And in no particular order: The Producers; Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; Legally Blonde; God of Carnage; A Steady Rain; Hairspray; Grey Gardens; Spamalot; Jersey Boys; The Odd Couple; Curtains; 39 Steps; Jersey Boys; Doubt; Rent; Mamma Mia; Chicago; Cats; Next to Normal; Memphis; Addams Family; Billy Elliot; Rock of Ages; La Cage aux Folles; Catch Me If You Can; Book of Mormon; Spider-Man; Sister Act; Master Class; How to Succeed...; Priscilla Queen of the Desert; War Horse; Once: Peter and the Starcatcher; Porgy and Bess: One Man Two Guvnors
