Spamalot Question

Spamalot Question

Spamalot Question#0

Posted: 10/28/05 at 3:17am

I've got questions about Spamalot. (I haven't seen it yet.)

1) I saw some photos of the outside of Surbert theatre and there was a phrase of "Cows, Coconuts, Killer Rabbits, Witches and French People."
I found the word "Witches" was crossed out, and below it something (maybe two or three words I think) was there.
What are they??

2)I'm listening to SpamCD and wondering who acts "Mother" in "Always look on the bright side of life"?
Is it same as Dennis' mother?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor English.

1. Under the witches part it says something like "they were too expensive."
2. Yes, that is Steve Rosen who plays the shrubbery lady. He also plays Dennis's mother, Sir Bedevere, and Concorde.

yeah it just says "too expensive" under the crossed out "witches". My guess is they were cut out of town after the marquee had gone up.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

It was cut in Chicago. They had a witch burning scene. It's obvious that the marquee has changed, they could have removed the reference to "witches" but they thought it would be funny to leave it there and just cross it out.

I saw it in Chicago. I thought the witch burning scene/song was extremely funny. Still can't see why it was cut.

(The cow song, though, was bad and needed to go.)

And by cutting the Witch scene, they cut Steve Rosen's role considerably. It's Sir Bedevere's biggest scene.

Thank you all ! :'-)
I'd really love to see it...
I hope they'll do world tours sometime in the future.

I didn't realize there was actually a witch scene that was cut. Not knowing the history of the production, I assumed the witches joke on the marquee was a dig against Wicked!

The "too expensive" is PRINTED on the marquee and other promotional things. The marquee was not altered after it had already gone up, it was planned that way. It's comedy.

I also saw it in Chicago and loved the witch burning scene! When I saw it on Broadway I was dissapointed at the change! I agree though that the cow song needed to be cut. I sat there for almost the whole song trying to figure out what was going on LOL

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

Also since Sara was the "witch" it was the only part in the show where she is not seen as The Lady of The Lake, which must have been slightly odd
