Posted: 11/28/05 at 8:23pmI know ticketmaster is selling tickets in San Francisco for February and March, but I hadn't heard anything about this production, it's not mentioned on the official site (and the Chicago production is only mentioned in the headlines of the news clippings section). Does anyone have any info on this production and when all of this was set up?

contracts are for 6 months for the actors.... my guess would be that they are only selling 2 months in sdvance at first to encourage full houses... but I really dont know for sure why they are not selling for more since the actors are booked for longer.... Ive heard a rumor that it will be going to Boston after 6 months, depending on how well it does in SF.....
I know offers have been given, curious to see who is doing it.

Well, when shows launched tours in Chicago, they stayed for about a year before heading off on tour. Is the SF Spelling Bee considered part of the tour? I can't imagine that they would have three companies running, so soon together plus an upcoming tour. National Tour contracts can be anywhere from 6 months to 1-year.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 12:18amMaybe it'll be like the Urinetown tour -- which started here, but was techncially an American Conservatory Theatre production until everyone went to Denver and then contracturally that was the start of the national tour.

Maybe. I know that's how The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miz, ans Miss Saigon started. They were considered Chicago productions until they left the city (much like the current Wicked, which, when it closes, will go on tour). But I hadn't heard anything about Spelling Bee in SF at all until this thread. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it until now.
*Edit
Didn't the Second National Tour of RENT do that as well. It was considered a La Jolla production until it left to go on tour? I think they started that tour so the First National Tour could do a six month run in Chicago.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 8:26amThere's not a Korean company yet, but it is being considered by a couple of producers over there for next season, along with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and several others. So many problems with trying to do Speling Bee in Korean...I can only imagine it flopping painfully into the abyss.

Hadnt heard anything about it going overseas! I wonder what the response would be.........
I heard through the grapevine the SF cast people that it was offered to but dont know if they have confirmed it or not........ I was suprised they were using NY people and not locals since that is what are trying to do for Chicago....
anybody got info?

Sorry about that..... reading it back makes no sense to me too!
I was just saying that for the San Fran Company, they offered roles to many New Yorkers (Base Pay + per diem), but they are looking for Chicago locals (or at least people willing to relocate with no Per Diem) for the Chicago cast. The SF cast will get almost what is equal to a production contract tour, but Chicago Cast will basically get 671 bucks a week, no per diem. I just find that interesting and weird at the same time.

I believe the Equity minimum for a Broadway Contract is over $1200, isn't it? The Chicago productions are using Broadway contracts.

Typically your right, its 1200 min. BUT I just got the breakdown for the Chicago Bee and it is a different contrat with NO per Diem and they are telling people that if they are cast from NY they have to be willing to relocate without the benefits of a "tour" type contract. It most def. is around 690 a week!
I'll try and cut and paste in a minute ...
