Spelling Bee - how early to go to sign up?

My husband and son are going to Spelling Bee this weekend. How early should they get there in order to sign up to be part of the bee? Is it a well marked table in the lobby or what??? My 13 year old son would be a hoot as part of this show...

The doors open 45 minutes prior to show time. And you don't just sign up. There's criteria they look for, so just because you get there early doesn't necessarily mean they will choose you.

So is there a table to sign up or do they choose people on their own??

There is usally a 'Bee' staff member in the downstairs lobby walking around with a clipboard. They usually approach you, but sometimes you can wander over to them and sign up. After signing up they send you to a table to be interviewed and then ten minutes before the show they choose there spellers.

There are usually 40/50 people who are interveiwed, and they choose four. You should get there as early as possible.
