This is news from a 2004, and I couldn't find the initial thread on it.

Does anyone know what happened? Did Taymor decide not to do it or to postpone it?

As far as I know it was in talks to replace the Lion King here in Germany, but it seems that nothing happened with this idea.

Bono and the Edge actually have the potential to write something good (should they choose to at some point in their careers), but Spiderman doesn't feel like a great fit to me. In fact, long before Mamma Mia started the jukebox musicals craze, I put together a tape of some of my favorite U2 songs in an order that told a little story. I can't find the tape (the fact that it was a tape and not a CD ought to give you some idea of how long ago this was), and I can't for the life of me remember the plot anymore, except that Running to Stand Still was used as commentary on a drug addict character. I guess my point is, Bono can be a great storyteller, and turning that into a musical is more than possible. But Spiderman? Nah.

Man, they had a Spiderman musical at Universal Studios, and despite the horrid mix of bad pop songs (Christina Milan) and great ones (Queen!), I really loved it. I'm not ashamed.

While I try to be optimistic and open to ALL new productions, I can't help but be apprehensive about even the possibility of this show. I can see immediate campiness. Spider-Man doing a choregraphed dance with villains/cops/civilians... dear Jesus.
