I'm sure the show will be fantastic. What I'm not so sure about is the show selling out for 5 years in a row. Anyone who would put money in this show is nuts. The only way it could work is if its the #1 show all the tourists want/NEED to see when they visit Broadway. If it can get better reviews then Billy Elliot, and attract a wider demographic than Wicked then it might have a shot at doing so. But I highly doubt it.

darquegk- SHHHHH! Someone may hear you and start calling themselves that.

This show will never EVER re-coup if it ever makes it to Broadway. They'd have to practicaly sell out every night for five years or sell half each night for 10.

Casting is well underway. I know of a few friends who have been cast, including a former Rent castmember. You people are such skeptics. There is a lot going on that has not yet been made public. The opening date will very likely be earlier than the February 2011 one that has been previously mentioned.

How could the date realistically be earlier than that? Tickets aren't on sale, no group presentations have been made, their publicists just quit, multi million dollar sets haven't even begun to be built yet, etc. Something about this whole show just doesn't sit right with me and hasn't for a long time. That initial report of he show having to sell out every performance for five years isn't even accurate anymore since so many more millions have been put into this thing since. There is no way of the show ever recouping in that theater at the inflated prices they're going to end up having to charge if tickets ever actually do go on sale. It seems like so much has been spent so far it's just a matter of Julie's larger than life ego that won't let this thing go. It died a year ago, why won't she just give it up?!

There HAVE been PLENTY of shows that have run for 5 plus years...so why can't this??

Note: I am not saying that it will or that it should -- in fact the only way I plan on seeing this is if someone else buys my ticket.

I am in the camp that I can't understand why anyone would continue to pour more money into this...but there are many folks that need a tax write-off, I suppose.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The Playbill piece mentioned that Spider Man was originally slated to open Feb. 25th of this year... 2010. The opening at the moment is scheduled for Nov. theoretically...

They are doing set work. I walk past the door to the stage on 43rd on the way to work and there are always men out there loading in and, it seems, readying the set. They couldn't tell me anything about the projected timeline.

I just don't get it, I guess.

When there are so many shows with far more potential to recoup that can't get capitalization, why is more and more money being poured into this? Perhaps it's just gotten to the point that they've already spent so much, there's no going back....

I hope the show works however it's intended to work. Although it's not for me.

saw the Hilton Theater all "webbed" out a month ago. Just passed it and laughed. I would love to see this show actually make it. For all the damn waits we've had, this show deserves something worth saving.

Spiderman will never be on TKTs or even discounted, it would be cheaper to pull the behemoth instead. The only way this could realistically recoup is by selling a disproportionate amount of premium seats than other shows, say an extra 100k a week. This is assuming that there will be a demand and reviews will be favourable.

Wicked was only successful because it was a staged spectacle, which Spiderman can achieve, but Wicked found and exploited a different demographic which Spiderman cannot do.
