is it true that the tour will be taped for PBS?
So help me god. If this gets taped over Gypsy, I will cut somebody.
steven22, where did you hear that?

Wouldn't they record the Broadway cast?
HAHA.
Yeah, right. I'll believe it when I see it, but there's definitely some better options than Spring Awakening...
not a reliable one...but on ebay..someone is selling a playbill from the tour..and in the description it says..this is the cast that will be taped for PB later this fall...
here is this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Spring-Awakening-Playbill-Tour-Blake-Kyle-Ticket_W0QQitemZ230303453425QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item230303453425&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
LoL at NGD2225. I totally agree! I am almost upset that out of all the shows on Broadway, a gem like Gypsy isn't being captured. It is really my belief that everyone should see this show at least once (which would be why I've taken two separate trips out there, and am planning another in Feb.), so if something like SA gets it instead, while I happen to like that show and LOVE Bashoff as Moritz - no. I would kill somebody.

don't even believe that garbage steven
Spring Awakening should totally be recorded....the show..preserve the amazing show..and i hope they recorded the original cast....
Yeah, love the show and I love that cast, but not in support of it being taped for PBS.

Every production has the original cast recorded for the Lincoln Center Library archives.

can you get them and watch them
You can go to the archives & watch ONLY CLOSED shows. Even then there are strict rules. No rewinding, fast forwarding, recording, & you can only watch it once EVER.
I believe you are only granted access if you prove that it is for research for a role in the show or related to the show.
Has anyone contacted the seller for clarification?
Yes, but all you have to do is tell them you are conducting "research" on the show, be it writing a paper, or preparing to perform in the show. They're not picky.
Anyway, I think everyone needs to settle down about their outrage over the show being recorded. First of all, I highly, highly doubt it will. We're using an unsubstantiated rumor and a line someone put in an ebay listing as a "source." Let's all take a deep breath, shall we?

Who cares if it's being taped? This overt negativity about Broadway shows is amazing to me. Just ignore it.
Exactly. It's not like there's some giant Broadway god overlooking the qualifications as to why a show gets taped for PBS. Just because one show might get taped and another doesn't doesn't mean people are out to get you or are just being meanies.
"Ugh, I can't believe there are white peaches at the Farmers Market this week and NOT GREEN GRAPES. I'm never coming back."
Lizzie and PiraguaGuy, you're both absolutely correct. I'd be thrilled if they taped Spring Awakening, and let's be honest, it would probably make a lot more money than a DVD of Gypsy would.
Not ALL shows are filmed for the Lincoln Center Archives... and not ALL original casts are filmed.
I forget which recent show was filmed with its replacement cast. Also, numerous old shows in their archives aren't of the original cast. Their film of the original Broadway production of DREAMGIRLS is of the final Broadway cast -- it is not of the original cast.
The reason that not ALL shows are filmed is simply due to costs. The production itself has to fund this filming -- Lincoln Center Archives doesn't do the filming out of the goodness of their hearts.
Also, SPRING AWAKENING would NEVER air on PBS in its original form. HBO and Showtime? Maybe. But never PBS, unless a heavy editing job is done.
I would like if Spring Awakening got taped, but would prefer Gypsy being recorded over Spring Awakening any day.

Is it really like a competition between shows? No show has to be recorded...it's not like Gypsy and SA are battling it out.
That would be an awesome battle though...

Honestly, I would have LOVED it they'd taped the SA OBC, but alas, they didn't- not for wide release anyway- so pretty much I have no real need or desire for another cast to be taped. If this IS true (which is seems like it probably isn't) and they tape the tour cast, cool. But I don't particularly care that much.
I DO agree about Gypsy. TAPE. IT. NOW. I swear, if this production of Gypsy does not get taped... it just needs to be taped. (I just saw it for a 2nd time last night so I'm in pretty high "Gypsy mode" hehe)
