Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

Well, last night I went to see SA at the Lyric for it's final performance there, and I have to say, this show keeps getting stronger and stronger! It was an incredible performance by ALL actors, and I thought sitting on stage was a real treat (However not recommended for a first time viewing!) There applause went on so long at the end, the cast had to come out for a final bow, which included them with only half make-up on and some with only half costume on, as the applause was so unpredicted! I hope this does marvels at the Novello, and even though it wont be a match for some shows opening this year, I hope it has a good, healthy run!

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

I've booked my ticket for the Novello on April 4. I've booked a stage seat as I've seen the show twice and fancy a different perspective. For me, SA is one of THE great musicals of recent years and I can't offhand think of anything I've heard about that's due to open in the West End this year that will come close to it.

Really hope it continues its success in the Novello! I thought it was such a stunning production.

How are stage tickets being sold for the Novello?? Has anyone figured out the seating chat for onstage yet?

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

As far as I could tell the stage seats were sold the same as any other seats. When I booked online there were options of "Stage, Stalls, Circle, etc" and I clicked on "Stage". A bargain for £20!

Not sure what the "seating chat" is though lol

No point in looking at the seating chart, if I being truthful, where ever you sit on stage you will miss alot, but it is worth it for the INCREDIBLE atmosphere! And the key stuff they do play to the sides so you wont miss that!

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

I have sat on stage many times before, just curious as I have seats I enjoy sitting in more than others. Tried a few days on the Novello site and still do not see the option for purchasing stage tickets ... is this becuase they may be sold out already??

This is the site I booked on and it defintely gives the option of stage seats when you book. If that option is not there for a particular date it means they are already sold out.

Is there any news about a London cast recording? I read somewhere a little while ago that a London recording (using the music from the original Broadway album, boo!) was in the works, but haven't heard a peep since.

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

It was rumoured a while back, and there was a release date of the Spring Awakening album on the website, but turns out it was just a re-release of the Broadway recording for the UK by a UK record label I think.

Something tells me, like the Wicked and Avenue Q UK re-releases, this is all we'll get recording-wise for Spring Awakening in the UK - sadly!

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

That's too bad about the cast recording. I was looking forward to seeing if another one gets done.

I guess I'll have to wait to see if any of the other productions around the world would get one. I would really like to hear a live cast album of the Vienna cast.

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

I'll be astounded if it doesn't do well at the Novello. Word of mouth and reviews have been fantastic, and it's bound to get a pretty strong following from the Wicked/AvenueQ/Hairspray crowd.

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

Id hoped theyd be some offers out but alas none yet, although it does seem to be at the booth most days so will probably end up getting tickets from there

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

The logo and trademark red and white have taken over the Novello like nothing i've seen before. I've always thought the marquees at the novello have been too small..but you deffinitely can't miss this! im so excited for it :)

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

Was at tonight's final preview.

Wow.

(although I wish they didn't keep slipping into Welsh accents. And the end's a bit rushed.)

I hope sales pick up. The Novello could do with a hit, and this deserves to be one.

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

Well it's deffinitely getting good magazine coverage! There was a small article about SA in Closer magazine, how it had got such rave reviews and about how Sarah (the blonde) and Nicola (the ginge) enjoyed it, they'd deffinitely return at the novello with the other girls. And also the album was review in OK! magazine. They never do cast recordings (which they said in the review) but felt obliged to do so because of how well it was doing....so not bad at all! :)

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

I think word of mouth will help this show, I alone have told about 15 people to go see it, and they are, and they said they wouldn't have even considered it if I hadn't recommended it!

Out of interest, how are sales going..... I REALLY want this show to survive!

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

Well yesterday afternoon i decided to go and find out what all the fuss was about. I booked the cheapest seat available for yesterday's matinee but they had closed the upper circle and the balcony completely so i was upgraded to the front of the dress circle which itself was less than a quarter full.

I had heard the broadway cast recording a while ago and while a few numbers stood out as a whole I found it quite patchy and same goes for the show i'm afraid.

You cant fault the energy of the cast. Charlotte Wakefield(who just looked a ringer for Hermionie Granger) and Aneurin Barnard (Lee Mead's sexier younger brother) held their own perfectly well, and I also rate Lucy Barker and Iwan Rhen.

I had a good two and half hours in the theatre but it just wasnt a standout for me. I just didnt think it was the ground breaker it seems to think it is.

The audience (what there was of one yesterday afternoon)lapped it up and positive word of mouth should give it a great boost for a while, but how long will it last at the Novello. Who knows

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

Think its pretty normal the Wed matinee would be quite empty seeing as though 90% or so of the target audience would be at school/college. Can see this changing to a 5:00 friday show or something for the next block of booking, or maybe even taking it out altogether.

re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again

Unfortunately, it's not selling that well. I was really surprised by this because after all the hype over its Lyric Hammersmith run, I thought people would be clamouring to see it. But then again, it's the same situation for War Horse... what was a must-see sensation at the National is now selling very poorly for the New London. I think it's the same situation for new shows in general right now. Priscilla isn't doing too great and Sister Act's sold next to nothing so far. I hope things pick up though, for Spring Awakening at least.

It's not just me! My first thoughts on seeing Charlotte Wakefield were "gosh, she looks rather like an anaemic Emma Watson" (which meant I spent a portion of act 2 chuckling to myself for totally unfunny reasons), and Aneurin Barnard is *exactly* how Lee Mead would look if he were young and hot! re: Spring Awakening - Here I go Again
