Remy was out on Tuesday because she was sick, not sure if she still is, though.
SA has understudies pretty much every day. That's why I keep going back, cause I love seeing new interpretations of parts.

It completely depends. There are people that I've seen every single time I've went and there are people I've only seen a few times. I went about a month ago and there were 5 understudies on for a matinee. You can never really tell with that cast (or the ACL cast).

I just wanted to say BRAVA to the casting directors of Spring Awakening by breaking the mold of traditional casting by integrating minorities into their show which happens to be set in Germany. Starting with Jenna who is the show's swing but also with the addition of Alice Lee. She is in the ensemble as well and ALSO the first asian-american to understudy Wendla. GO HER! I can't wait to see and hear about them in the the future.
Now to get the other shows thinking this way. :)

Posted: 5/29/08 at 5:04pmThePinballWizard, I was thinking the same thing when I saw Alice Lee in the ensemble last week. Could someone give me a brief history lesson on integrating minorities that happened in Germany? I guess what I'm trying to ask is: Can Wendla Bergmann possibly be an Asian?

I don't think the show ever tried to be historically accurate with the casting, that's not really the main focus of the show. As long as she can perform the role fine, it doesn't matter if she is Asian or not.

Posted: 5/29/08 at 6:26pmBurnsy I understand what you're thinking. It is Germany after all and I don't believe that there were any minorities around in that country in that time (not saying that there weren't, just not any present in the book). However, considering it is theater I'm just glad for once that ethnicity didn't rule out someone's obvious talent. I don't mean to sound harsh in the way I state this but I've always seen shows where there was a bunch of white people, maybe some african americans here and there and one asian person...maybe. Audiences nowadays have come to expect African Americans in lead roles (i.e. Pearl Bailey in Dolly, Toni Braxton in B&B) It's just nice to see now that other ethnicities could and would possibly have an equal chance of playing the next Belle or the next Ariel etc.
