Spring Awakening begins New DIGITAL Rush!

Okay, yeah, 'cause people are interested in paying $25+ more than the would (already) for the same seats? This is so stupid, and I think it's horrendous to try to steal the limelight from tonight's festivities. Shame on Spring Awakening. They had their time last year. The End.

Mike, the digital rush seats are only $13 more than regular rush seats. This is a good program though for people like me, who have regular 9-5 jobs and can't spend hours waiting at the box office. Plus it'll allow non-students to see the show cheaply. What's the problem with that?

Exactly, frogs_fan85. Just what I was thinking on another thread. And if this gets copied by other theaters (which I bet it will), then they have done something revolutionary.

I wouldn't call this revolutionary. The Public started doing this for Shakespeare in the Park last month.

No. This is ****ing stupid.
Apricot - did you join to help spread the word of a little digital rush? Pathetic.

They probably are not gonna be regular rush seats. It seems like they will be whatever tickets are left. Its a hassle though because you have to buy them from 4-6 online, and if you live more than an hour away, its cutting it close to show time.
Also, they give 20 people a code, for 20 tickets. So if 10 people want 2 each, 10 people get screwed.

In no way is this truley ground breaking. If they Spring people did their research they would have realized programs such as Hiptix and Student NO rush already offer services along the same line. None of them use texting codes and stuff to do it but they still let you get student tickets with out having to wait. I actually prefer Hiptix and Student No rush to this "digitial rush" because those two guarentee your tickets and you can by them in advance not just day of. Also the Public is already doing the same thing, once again just with out the cell phone they just email you to tell you if you won tickets are not.

Did you actually find those numbers, or is that conjecture on your part?

Could this be one of those "don't knock it till you try it" things?

It's on the site somewhere. Forget where I read it.

Ah...so it's like the Live for Five ting where more people get codes than there are tickets. Nice.
Say...wait a minute. Technically THAT was sort of the first online rush. Not even the Public's. Playwrights Horizon's Live for Five.

I think it was stupid to call it groundbreaking, but I'm excited none the less. If you take away the publicity, the concept is exciting for fans of the show.

Bryan - no! it's not "revolutionary" or "groundbreaking" ... it's been done before and there was no need to use Tony day to reveal this.
This is just another tactic used to hype up all of the obnoxious SA fanboys/fangirls. Now they'll go see it a 12th time because they can do it online. Wonderful.

OK, jordangirl, you win! But like I said on the other thread, the e-mail said it would be "another Broadway first" not another live theater first.
So your point is valid, but doesn't really apply.

And putting the groundbreaking part aside...this is very useful for people who aren't students to get tickets to the show. It's a nice thing on the producers' part, I don't know why people are so angry.

I was more referring to your comment about my looking for a live blog for the Tonys. But let's not make this a place for petty fights. Sorry.
