my reasons for loving this post:
1) James Earl Jones using a different exit - hilarious. (as would I)
- Is he as amazing in this show, as I'd assume?
2) your use of "et al". good work.
I was at the CAT SD on opening night. The crowd was very excited, but no one walked out of the stage door. However James Earl Jones walked out of a side door right next to the stage door behind where most of the crowd was. I was the first to see him, but the crowd quickly swarmed his car as it tried to drive away.
From what I understand, Sutton is a rare sight at the YF stage door.
When I saw YF, it was still in previews, so things may have changed, but Sutton did come out.
I've never had good luck with Joanna Gleason.
WHY are there videos of nearly every Spamalot stage door since Clay started his run?

How bad is the Little Mermaid stage door? I am seeing it Saturday at 8:00 and I am in the third row so I expect to not get out as soon as others. I really want to be up front during the stage dooring.
i saw the matinee of the homecoming today for my birthday!
only michael mckean came out

Because fans can't get enough of him, and are used to downloading bootleg videos from his every concert. But videotaping on Broadway is illegal, so we take what we can get.

...Isn't...videotaping concerts equally illegal? Maybe that's just me...

It is up to the artist. Clay doesn't mind.

It's usually up to the performer, and Clay allows it at his own concerts.
mels3192 - I was at the matinee of HOMECOMING today, too, and I thought the performance was one of the best ever. And Happy Birthday!
Last time I stagedoored a show, it was "Legally Blonde". I basically was forced into a line, (even though I was planning on stagedooring it after the show anyway) as soon as I left the Palace Theatre. I waited about 7-8 minutes and then the ensemble started coming. Then, more ensemble (the girl who plays Kate). Then, the supporting characters (Michael Rupert's understudy, Nikki Snelson, Serena, Kate, Richard H. Blake, Kate Shindle). Then, after waiting in the extreme cold (this was the March 9 performance), the lady who "managed" the stage door said that everyone that was going to come out had already come out. So, no Laura Bell Bundy, Orfeh, Andy Karl, or Christian Borle.
"Sutton and Roger almost never come out the stage door after YF"
actually i have seen the show over 36 times and everytime Roger came out except on some matenas. Sutton came out most of the time
How many of those supposedly 50-100 people nightly (estimates come from Clay fan, so take with a grain of salt) actually saw the show? Quite a few posters have seen crowds already forming outside the theatre before the show even let out. Way to support Broadway, Clay fans! The show hasn't had a sold-out week since he joined the cast, but you're all evidently (ab)using the stagedoor.
I was at The Homecoming and the entire cast came out. I didn't try to speak to them, but I'm sure you could stop them if you'd like.
The photos do seem to bear out the estimates, though I assume the actual number varies from performance to performance. I'm sure there are Claymates who stage door every night they are in town whether they go to the show or not, but I imagine they do go to at least one performance as well. As to supporting Broadway, it seems like many of the fans coming to NY for the weekend with their families do go to see other shows as well as Spamalot while they are here, so Clay being in Spamalot is indirectly supporting other shows as well (not to mention hotels, restaurants, etc). Then there's all the Spamalot memorabilia they buy. One thing Clay fans know how to do is spend money :)
keen - thank you!! and yes it was a great performance!

Thank you all for the info!
To the person who wrote about Joanna Gleason - should I not even try after that show? I'm such a big fan... would love to meet her and sign stuff I have from previous shows I saw.
As for The Seagull, has anyone seen it? Do the actors do stage door?

Charlie No-One: How did the Little Mermaid stage door turn out to be? Also, does anyone know where it is?? I tried looking through threads, but could not find anything.

Saw sutton before the show... about 20 mins before half-hour... with her dog, not after.
As for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof..... never been to a stagedoor where fans screamed ( not cheered) and grabbed at the performers. All but James Earl Jones and Rashad came out and signed. JEJ comes out the back door when Terrence comes out the main stagedoor, same with Rashad and Anika ( though, I have head that she sometimes comes out and signs). After the disappointing performance, my stagedoor experience was just par for the evening.

I was at the November stage door the night after opening night. (Not to meet them, just to gawk LOL.) There were only a small handful of fans there...maybe because of the show's demographics (older, etc.). Metcalf seemed civil, if in a bit of a hurry, but I saw her sign programs, etc. Lane made a bee-line for his limo. He might have signed a couple of Playbills, but he definitely did not want to be bothered.
the whole cast of cat on a hot tin roof extremely friendly or at least i felt this way to me
nathan lane and laurie metcalfe very nice as well

The stage door experience was interesting. I'll paste what I put in the bad experiences thread:
After Little Mermaid, Sierra was the first person to come out. She just looked at the crowd and then walked away. It was kind of unexpected. I understand that it isn't part of your job to sign or greet fans but when people come from all over and pay a lot of money to see you, I think it should be expected. There was a little girl next to me and when Sierra left, she was heartbroken. She went two nights in a row to try and meet Sierra and her father said this happened the night before as well. It being Easter Weekend, I understand if she had somewhere to go, but couldn't she do what Sean Palmer and Sherie Rene Scott did and go out another door instead of disappointing her fans by just looking at them and leaving? I was semi upset about that. Sherie didn't even come out. Titus came out though and was very nice

Hm that's really too bad. I wonder if it's typical of Sherie and Sierra not to come out? Or for Sherie not to come out, rather....maybe it was because it was Easter. Hmm. Maybe people would have a better chance if they pre-showed?
Also, where is TLM stage door??

When you exit the show, if you leave from the door farthest to the right you will find the door right there. You can't miss it. Sierra is rumored to usually come out, but this weekend people have been saying she hasn't. The security guard said Sherie never comes out though I heard otherwise. Sean Palmer, aka Prince Eric, didn't come out. Only two chorus people stayed to sign as well.
