EganFan, look at the video preview under "Content." LMK is great!

re: Starring in Poppins?

I heard that John Hill is going to play the role in drag, he has always wanted to tackle an emotionally charged role like Mary, and now he has his chance

Perhpas Rosie O'Donnell as Mary and John Stamos as Burt? They'd look good together.

re: Starring in Poppins?

Somebody on All That Chat claims to have "inside" info that Kelli O'Hara and Gavin Creel are Bert and Mary.

Take the rumour for what its worth, kiddos re: Starring in Poppins?

re: Starring in Poppins?

I think Paula Poundstone would make a great Mary.
Perhaps Harvey Feirstein as Burt?

Just a thought.

re: Starring in Poppins?

Why would they wait until April to cast the leading role if they've been auditioning since January? It's either going to be Laura Michelle Kelly or it's not, and if it's not, they have to have somebody else in mind by now.

Because it is the kind of casting that does affect group ticket sales, I would think they'd actually be eager to solidify it. Especially when a name - even just a Broadway name starts tallying commitments 6-8 months in advance.

Kelli O'Hara would be a good choice, IMO.

re: Starring in Poppins?

Well is one of them Kelli O'Hara? lol

Seriously, O'Hara is on a hot streak right now and if they "really" decided they wanted her, it wouldn't surprise me if they made an offer before seeing the others for callbacks. God knows it wouldn't be the first time that happened...

But like you dd, I'm not convinced this is anything other than a rumour :)

re: Starring in Poppins?

Creel and O'Hara? I DO like O'Hara and I DON'T like Creel but I think the two of them together would be terribly dull and just don't seem like a fit for this project. I think O'Hara should hold out for the LCT "South Pacific".

re: Starring in Poppins?

SOUTH PACIFIC isn't happening until fall 2007! That's a lot of holding out!

re: Starring in Poppins?

Oh...I got my info wrong I suppose...I thought it was earlier than that....you're right. I still would rather see Kelli do something else besides "Mary Poppins". There has to be some other goodies in the works...

what about ann hathaway she was at the sondheim 75th in hollywood she was in fine voice

re: Starring in Poppins?

It is amazing how many people have "confirmations" from "reliable sources" on the casting of Mary....Kelli O'Hara, Laura Michell Kelly, Erin Dilly, Ashley Brown, Ruthie Henshell...

Quite frankly, I think it would be interesting if the role ends up going to someone completely different...this seems to happen quite often in instances like this. Should be interesting.

re: Starring in Poppins?

Don't forget Christianne Noll. Somebody said they knew "for sure" she was playing Mary Poppins.
#67

re: Starring in Poppins?

the only really reliable source... REALLY reliable, is the creative team or the actresses who have the role themselves.

No decisions yet, I don't think.

re: Starring in Poppins?

It's true that the director and director/choreographer
have not seen any NY auditions
so the decision is way off
if Gavin can dance he is perfect
and I like Schafel but Winslet would be the Bomb if she can sing it
