Does anyone know about were you can read the script to the stage version of "State Fair"?
Also, what are people's thoughts on the Broadway production of the show from 1996?

State Fair is held by R&H, so you can likely get a perusal copy from them, often for a nominal fee and/or shipping fee.
Lots of musicals aren't available publicly due to fear of theft.

I didn't see it on Broadway, but caught it on its pre-Broadway tour. I enjoyed it actually.
The story itself was provincial and what many would consider "outdated." But I liked that about it.
I thought there was some great music. It is Rodgers and Hammerstein, after all. Some nice dancing. And it definitely had some star power in Mckechnie, Wise, Mcardle, and Davidson.
I think it was too little, too late though.
And it really isn't considered R&H's strongest musical by many (most?). It sort of came and went. Picked up a couple of Tony nominations, but left with little (if any?).
Flower Drum Song did much the same. And I loved that revival too. I thought Salonga and Jose Llana were great.
Regardless of how they did on Broadway in revival form, I'm glad I saw both. I just love the music in both of them. I'm just not sure the audiences were ready or much interested in them at the time they made their appearance (SF) or reappearance (FDS).
