Forgive me if this has been posted a gazillion times recently, as I haven't been able to check the boards very often lately...
Anyway, any news on whether or not Stephanie Block is back as Elphie for the Denver stop? I'm curious to see how she interprets the character, but would prefer to see Eden. I know most information I've read says that Ms. Block would "hopefully return for the Denver run", so wasn't sure if there was an update.
where's my friend Popular? She would know. Paging Popular...

she's supposed to be back after the latest run ends....which I believe it just did.
Someone called? :)
She's probably on a plane to Denver as I type. As far as I know she's back in this Friday.

I'm a die hard Idina fan. But Stephanie Block is great. Why didn't she play the role first?
she was in workshops with it since the beginning, but the producers wanted someone who "had experience opening a show on broadway", which was Idina. They kept stephanie as an understudy but then she got the job for boy from oz, and rejoined the Wicked tour when Oz closed.
Here is the short version:
Stephen Schwartz picked Stephanie for Elphaba. She was Elphaba throughout the whole workshop while they were showcasing it for Universal. Then when it came time to take it to NY "they" decided that "they" needed someone with Broadway credits. Enter Idina. She does the run in SF and takes it to NY. Wins Tony. Stephanie would've stayed in the ensemble and covered Elphaba in NY but Boy From Oz came along. Noone said this business is fair but everything happens for a reason and now she is getting to do the part afterall...fabulously might I add!
ETA - damn, too slow. Guess my short version wasn't so short afterall. HA! but yeah, what the person above me said.

You will not regret seeing Stephanie in Denver. You've probably heard a lot about Eden lately because of SF, and I'm not taking anything away from her kudos... but I saw Stephanie in the lead in Los Angeles, and she was absolutely terrific.
I'm sure many others would agree or disagree... The debate will never end, it seems.
But Stephanie is hardly "second string," and definitely someone to look forward to seeing.
Steph and Eden are amazing.

Take about your show biz ups and downs. I'm glad Stephanie is getting a chance to show her stuff... and, yeah, I still loves my Idina.
The Eagle has landed. Miss Block is indeed in Denver as I type!
Yeah, seriously! If what I saw here in L.A. was an injured Stephanie than you guys in Denver don't even know what you have coming to you now that she's had some time to rest up!!! DAMN!!! All, I can say is get ready!
yey!she's back... shame I wont get to see her grrr does anyone know how long she's staying with the tour anyway?

Steph is contracted for a year. So at some point in March 2006 she is scheduled to exit the tour unless she extends.
Awesome! Hearing all the excitement about her being back in the show makes me all the more anxious to see the show on Saturday! I thought she was great in Oz, so I'm sure I'll love her in this. Before the show sold out in about 2 minutes (almost), they were promoting the show on all the radio stations here and they sounded amazing. It will be interesting to compare the differences between the NY version and the touring version. I'll give my review after Saturday!
I can't wait to hear your review. It has been far too long a spell without some Stephanie reports.
YES!!! Erik and Uncageg - you are our DENVER CONNECTIONS!!!
Your duties will be listed as soon as I can catch myself a break at work later on today. Off to fight some traffic!
BYE :)
Idina was my first Elphaba. I saw Stephanie and LA and thought she was wonderful. However, Idina is still my favorite.
Wicked started loading in concessions on Monday and the show on Tuesday. Stephanie was not here as of 6:00pm Tuesday. I assume she is here now. e-mailed with Mr. Schwartz's assistant and he said he believes she will be back in the show here in Denver. With my ties to Denver Center Attractions, I am sure I would know by now if she wasn't going to be here. Is anyone else here seeing it in Denver and when? I see it on Tuesday.
erik - The show sold out mostly through subscriptions and group sales before they went on sale to the public. By the time they went onsale to the public the only decent things left were some single seats. I, myself, have a block of 24 Orchestra seats on Tues. There is a good article in the lastest Variety magazine discussing the tour and why it is here for such a short time. It has already been booked again for 2007. Also, I mentioned in another thread, the lottery tickets are for the seats in the front on the far sides. Erik, if you have been in the Buell, you know those seats are, well, horrible! (Rhymes with Morrible!).
Hey uncageg! Long time, no talk! I know those seats are terrible.
But I am going to attempt the lottery a time or two because the seats I have for Saturday are in nearly the same spot as where I saw it twice in NY (similar distance and angle). I would really just like to get a closer vantage point, even if I would miss portions of the sets. We'll have to chat and compare notes next week...
Ok my two Denver lovelies! Your missions, should you choose to accept them are to:
1) GO SEE THE SHOW

Steph is amazing! You are very lucky to be seeing her. I'd love to see her again. And she'll probably be even better after her rest. Lucky lucky you!! Let us know how she does.
