Well, Popular, perhaps if Ms. Block decided to auction off things that didn't have her personal sweat and bacteria on them, we'd be less likely to to say it was gross.
Who does she think she is to believe that people would bid on her sweat? That's the bottom line here.

Somebody once auctioned on Ebay a sandwich that had been partially eaten by a performer ( think it was Liz Taylor?) and somebody bought it. There is a market for almost anything that has been touched by someones "dream".
Hey Elvis usta wipe his scraves w his sweat and give em away to swooning fans!)

Hey everyone....
Stephanie is doing what she has seen other stars do! Don't you remember Hugh Jackman bidding off his shirts, towels etc (ALL SWEATY AND FILLED WITH HIS DNA)? "The Boy From Oz" collected the most $$ for Broadway causes (more than any other show) during it's run. And although Stephanie has not won a Tony YET...she has had National exposure. Thus, as many people are aware of Stephanie as those who know Idina.
Afterall, the West Coast and Mid-Western States do not keep as close a watch on Broadway people like the East Coasters keep track. So, please if you are not happy with what is being auctioned...others may like her items. REALLY, THE PEOPLE WHO PURCHASE HER ITEMS ARE THE FANS WHO WILL FRAME THESE ITEMS FOR POSTERITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be kind and stop the negativity...don't smash the love.

Posted: 3/26/06 at 4:12pmI'm confused. Stephanie, so very generously, gave these items away so that money could be made for CHARITY, and you all are complaining? I don't understand. The stuff she is selling is stuff that fans WANT! So why are you dissing it? Besides how is the stuff she's selling any different than a lot of the stuff sold at the bway flea market? I was there last year, I saw what they were selling and just don't understand how this stuff is "gross." To each his own I guess but personally I think it's pretty cool that she is doing this!

Posted: 3/26/06 at 4:15pmLady Italy, I couldn't agree with you more! People just want something unique. And having the green nail polish that is used IS unique! What's so wrong with that? Besides, it's for CHARITY! Everyone should be as generous when they leave shows!

GretchaSketch,
The auction is a FINE idea.
However, some of the items that are being auctioned can be considered by some people concerned with hygiene as being "gross".
Towels you can wash and easily sanitize.
Harder to do with certain cosmetic items.
Those of us on this message board are NOT here to rubber stamp everything as being "cool" and "great". We do have brains.

wow, I wasn't implying that you DIDN'T have brains! It's not like the make up is being auctioned off to USE! It's just a fun momento. But like I said to each his own. Please don't put words in my mouth. I was trying to not get in an arguement while still stating my opinion.
I didn't hear anyone complaining when shoshana auctioned off her robe! and I doubt that stephanie would give away the robe without washing it, I mean seriously! Come on! But I'm sure that make up stains.

GretchaSketh~
You go girl!! The green does not come off material easily. However if it did I don't believe it would be of any value. Who'd want to purchase an item that couldn't be proved authentic.
The make-up, nail polish and other costmetics were made especially for the show. For many fans, something of such personal contact is priceless. For some gross, others a rarity. I've seen fans pick up a used napkin, discarded hose and underware as a keep sake. So what's the difference.
Just think of the germs picked up on the hand-rails of the subway...far worse than Ms. Block's...at least we all know she's showers and is conscience of her hygiene.

Yes, we understand the fans will buy anything.
Yes, we understand it is going to a good cause.
I am objecting to when "Popular" basically calls "andrew" out for saying that some of the items were "gross".
That is andrew's opinion. And she's allowed it.
It really irks me when people like "Popular" act like we all have to just gush and gush.
We do NOT have to gush. We can say something is "gross" because we have a RIGHT in this country to express our opinion whether we are a fan or a performer.

Just to update you all..
Popular and I ironed everything out.
So please don't argue on OUR behalf or feel the need to take sides.
Clearly we all have different feelings on this and that should be ok. Thats why America is great! LOL
I won't edit my feelings SO much about something that i am not ME anymore. Just because people know I was in a couple of Broadway shows shouldn't mean that I can't post a feeling about something here and there!
I realize that SOO MANY people will be excited to receive these items! I happy for them and the charity that is benefitting!
ALL IS WELL...

This thread really does prove the theory that with some people, you just can't win. There's no need to gripe about the quality of the items and such. I think Stephanie has done a wonderful and smart thing, which is not only give to charity, but she's doing it in such a way that immediately connects with her fan base. I think there's something more personal and human about the items than, say, the standard autographed windowcard. Anyone can do that. But the collection of stuff she's putting up I think shows effort and care on her part.

Perhaps I shouldn't be at this point, but I'm still confused and thrown off by the negativity on this board sometimes. There is no harm in what she's auctioning off. So what if some of it is used and worn? Some may want the items JUST for that reason alone. I doubt anyone wants to USE the "extra personal" stuff... they're JUST meant to be FUN keepsakes from the show.
In general, I feel it's pointless and counter-productive to take the time to knock down another human being's act of generosity, no matter WHO that person is. To me, reading what some of you had to say was the same as if you were discouraging people from possibly bidding. It seemed a selfish thing to do given that the money is going to charity and I'm sorry if I read too deeply into your statements. I feel some of you may have read too deeply into mine as well, as I never intended to make anyone feel like they should be gushing about Steph OR the items. I may not always be perfectly appropriate with my reactions to the negativity but, like Andrea wrote, we are both past it so hopefully the rest of you can drop it as well.
Those are MY opinions, and if my stating my opinions offends you, I really don't know what else to say.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 11:44amI think Steph is doing a great service auctionning her stuff off. If you don't like it, don't bid. Plenty of people will I'm sure!
