Stephen Lynch has said that he has auditioned for "RENT" many times but never gotten it. Opinions? I think he would be an amazing Roger. Obviously not on Broadway but there are other venues.

"I've auditioned for `Rent' 950 times," Lynch says in his dressing room at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre before a performance as the title character in "The Wedding Singer," a wild new musical set in the 1980s and based on the film. "I'm always told it's between me and another guy." Until now, the other guy had always gotten it.

I'd actually like the idea of Jack Black as Roger, for some reason.

I think he could make a good Mark too, but Roger better suits him. I wonder why he's never gotten the part? Maybe he's known too much for his comedy and Roger's a pretty humorless role.

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

I think he's one of those people who doesn't quite fit either part well enough to be cast.

I can see Stephen Lynch as more of a Mark type, but for me, for some reason, Jack Black's just got to be Roger. I'm trying to work through the script and make my case. As soon as I can, I will.

Seriously, Jack Black can not pull off a 20 somthing year old. Stephen Lynch, IMO, can. He'd also be great in Mark, but I'm watching his DVD now (Which I put in before I saw this) and I belive his Roger would be great!

It's not about age, age is never explicitly discussed in the script. It's in terms of talent. Jack Black has the talent.

Just for the record, I'm WAITING for the day when Lynch returns to Broadway. I've been a fan of his for years and years, I think he's absolutely fantastic, and he can SANG.

That said, the ONLY problem I see with him in regards to RENT is that.. vocally he's more Mark, but looks wise I could picture him more as Roger. I just feel like his voice might not be quite edgy enough for Roger. But hey, I'd ABSOLUTELY go see it if he did either of those roles! hehe

(On the "other people who'd be great in RENT" note:
David Cook as Roger, PLEAAASE <3 just sayin'. Heck, even if he just sang One Song Glory at a concert or something, I'd be good with that!)

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

Jack Black?
I love the man, but oy. Something about that just doesn't sit right with me.

But now is the perfect time for me to push my amazing idea: SCHOOL OF ROCK THE MUSICAL! Come on. Nobody could play that part but Jack. Or a Tenacious D jukebox musical would make my life. They'd have to have Rock of Ages-style in-seat pot service, though.

I actually think that Lynch would be the first Roger I could stand.

Jack Black I could not see as the leads in rent.
Link in Hairspray maybe.

Lynch would be great in either Roger or Mark

I think I would rather see him as Mark - I prefer his lower range.

I'd rather see Jack Black as Freddy Benson.

I thought that the day after the Tony's. I was amazed when I found out I wasn't alone on that choice.
