Posted: 1/15/08 at 11:01pmLet's not get carried away. Trask's work for HEDWIG was, of course, electrifying, but the work he did for the movie CAMP was...uneven at best. He seems to do his best with a good subject, and CLUELESS may or not be that (I enjoyed the movie hugely, by the way.)

Posted: 1/15/08 at 11:21pmOkay so before anyone craps all over this idea lets think about the fact that a large part of Clueless' basis is "Emma"...What fantastic material to pull from! There should be no reason to worry about it being overshadowed by Legally Blonde, because frankly, Clueless is about ten times the movie in quality, writing, casting, and every other which way! It's great stuff! I think it's an great choice of movie-to-musical, and really hope this is something that will be in the works!

My favorite two songs that Trask composed for CAMP were "The Ladies Who Lunch" and "I'm Still Here." Phyllis, I felt "Turkey Lurkey Time" sounded like a song I've heard a thousand times before, old news.
As I said before, the reason this could be so much better than LEGALLY BLONDE is the fact that EMMA is a great material to use as a source. If they simply try to use Jane Austen as their main starting point they should have no problem coming up with a great original musical. And as long as they keep Laura Bland Bundy a thousand miles away from the theatre, then we should all be in for a treat. And seriously, Kristen Bell all the way.

"Broadway will have systematically ruined all my favorite movies."
So irritating when people say stuff like this... (same with "Hollywood will have systematically ruined all my favorite books.")
Clueless and other adapted works are exactly as they were before. Nothing has changed about your favorite movie, book, play, etc. Just ignore the adaptations and enjoy the original work you love to much. (Though as someone pointed out, Clueless is a somewhat-faithful Jane Austin rework.)
"Hollywood will have systematically ruined all my favorite Jane Austin novels."

I look forward to any score from Trask, too. Hedwig is sublime.
I agree that keeping Emma in mind for adapting this would be smart. Transferring the film to the stage alone would be boring and pointless.
And, I'll say once again, most musicals are adaptations of books, plays, poems, etc. so why not films? It's about how well you do it.

Posted: 1/16/08 at 2:34pmI love Annaleigh and totally think she could do Cher, but if she is a little too bubbly, maybe she'd work better as Tai?

Posted: 1/16/08 at 2:44pmRichard Blake, Leslie Kritzer, and Annaleigh Ashford are all good choices indeed. But they can't use all of those people because then it would be like Legally Blonde rip-off ..... big time! Does anyone know when this is supposed to happen?

Leslie Kritzer should be busy doing A Catered Affair and won't have time for this.
I love the girl and I really hope ACA has a long happy run!
