In a video blog over at Yahoo! Broadway, Barry Weisler says that he is producing a stage adaptation of the movie CLUELESS with music by Stephen Trask (of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH fame.)

Has anyone heard anything about this?

I think sometimes he gets over shadowed by (the admittedly brilliant) John Cameron Mitchell. Hedwig would have been nothing without those songs, which were so good you really believed were written by Hedwig herself. I'd see any musical with a score by Trask in a heartbeat.

I just wish Legally Blonde hadn't gotten to B'way first. They're both based on (somewhat) similar movies, with Clueless being quite a bit better IMHO. With higher quality source material and songs by Trask, this could possibly be a better show overall, yet get overshadowed by LB.
But who knows...

Posted: 1/15/08 at 5:33pmYeah, but Legally Blonde already opened, so I don't see that as being a problem. Perhaps if they were opening in the same season.

YES Annaleigh would be fabulous!
Hey, this could work. It could be amazing or a disaster. I think it mostly depends on the strength of the score.

Annaleigh Ashford is a bit too bubbly for a role like Cher.
In my opinion, the character should still be perky and cute, but much more grounded.
Someone like Robyn Hurder or Jessica Lee Goldyn would be more appropriate.

Just please no Laura Bland Bundy as Cher...please...PLEASE. I too think Annaleigh Ashford is way too bubbly for the role, though at least she isn't bland like Bundy.
I think it should be a vehicle for Kristen Bell to come to Broadway. It could either be A LOT like LEGALLY BLONDE, or way smarter and more fun. I think the key is in going back to the movie's source, Jane Austen's EMMA.

I've heard about this for awhile; I assume it's been in development for a long time.
Yes, Stephen Trask is the perfect person for the project.
And I think Jessica Lee Goldyn could possibly be a terrific Cher.
David Josefberg might be a great Josh.
Leslie Kritzer would be a great Tai, if she hasn't propelled to 'above the title' status by the time the show gets on.
Ooh, Richard Blake as Elton, who is basically a 'jerk boyfriend'!
Brandon Wardell could be a great Travis.
Tracee Beazer for Dionne!

InfiniteTheaterFrenzy, Margo Lion was previously developing the show as a potential venture several years ago.
She shelved the idea when she got involved with HAIRSPRAY, and this is the first I've heard of it being resurrected since.

I could definitely see Clueless as a musical. And please no Laura Bell Bundy, she already butchered one valley-girl role. I would love to play Cher, but I doubt that's going to happen

Posted: 1/15/08 at 9:37pmAhhh yes, this would be awesome. I think that this could be great if they had an awesome score and used real teens in the cast. I mean, Alicia Silverstone was supposed to be FIFTEEN. No.
