I think Stockard Channing is a good actress, but I don't see her playing Bessie Berger. To me, Channing is too ethereal for the role.

the Broadway revival of Awake & Sing from last year was one of the most amazing nights of theatre in my life. i can only begin to fathom what the London production might be like!

I always believed that Patty Duke would have been wonderful in Awake and Sing.

Stockard Channing was amazing on TV but I have never seen her on stage...I bet she'll do really good!

I have seen her in The Exonerated abd Six Degrees of Separation on stage in London and she was fantastic both times. She did an impressive number of plays in the US and it'll be great to see her again in the West End a second time!

As for her being to ethereal, I think she can play just about anything she wants but I'll let you know how it turns out re: Stockard Channing in Awake & Sing

I think she's a great choice for the role. She's got the right edge for it. She can be vivid and intense when she gets the chance. Now, how about Hugh Dancy for Moe?

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I'd like to hear what you think of her performance. Maybe she can pull it off, but I think Bessie needs that weighty "world on my shoulders" feeling about her.
