Posted: 11/19/07 at 8:48pmIt's at times like this I wish I wasn't in college and could afford to donate more than $25 at a time. I bought the Broadway Dog Collar/Leash set, and I've got to say, they're pretty darn adorable :)

As long as some 3rd generation guy who doesn't give a s**t about theatre can make a living, who gives a s**t about BCEFA?
I work for a theatre in Arvada, Colorado... And it makes me sick that we have a chance to raise more money than a Broadway show. I would KILL for a a chance to make as much money as these guys make now, yet I will do anything I can to help make "Carols For A Cure 2007" become a success.
I make so little to live, but no matter what happens, I always donate, and I can only hope that those Local 1 jackasses have some buckets outside the theatres. I hope their conscience' are okay knowing they're not only making their peers loose their livelihood, but they're making a wonderful charity suffer. Happy Holidays!

Posted: 11/20/07 at 7:03pmIf anyone lives in Colorado, both of the winter productions at the Arvada Center (La Cage and Plaid) are selling Carols '07 and '06, as well as taking donations. It's so sad that a regional theatre is going to collect more money this week than Wicked...

This is different than what has been posted above...this is not the store or the link to BC/EFA only for board donations. Through this you can make a donation under the name of your favorite show. This is important as Gypsy of the Year is based on who raised the most money. As the strike is SEVERELY limiting any donations it's a great way to make sure YOUR favorite show raises as much as possible!!
GYPSY OF THE YEAR Online Fundraising
Introducing…TEAM RAISER
An alternative way for you to take part in the annual fundraising
for The 19th Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR Competition.
Due to the strike following the breakdown of negotiations between The League of American Theatres and Producers and IATSE, Local 1, representing Broadway's stagehands, the fundraising efforts at over 30 Broadway shows for BC/EFA has had to stop along with the show's performances.
Every week of fundraising lost to the strike is a loss of over $350,000
to BC/EFA.
Last year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR fundraising raised over $3 million. Revenue usually raised from the in-theatre appeals prior to The GYPSY OF THE YEAR Competition makes up over 20% of our annual budget.
At an average loss of over $350,000 per week, BC/EFA will not be able to award the usual annual grants to six programs at The Actors' Fund - including The AIDS INITIATIVE; The Phyllis Newman WOMEN'S HEALTH INITIATIVE, The Al Hirschfeld FREE HEALTH CLINIC and more, which include the food pantries, meal delivery programs, housing initiative and health clinics of over 400 AIDS and family service providers across the country.
We have received many phone calls from people asking what they can do to help us through this difficult time. Realizing that many people use the internet to stay in touch these days, BC/EFA would like to introduce “Team-Raiser” as a way to continue Gypsy of the Year fundraising via the Internet.
With "Team-Raiser" you can use the internet via e-mail or blogs to reach out to family, friends and especially show fans that might normally make a donation at the theater but are unable to do so at this time.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Anyone can make a general donation to Broadway Cares for Gypsy of the Year or support their favorite show participating in Gypsy of the Year from this page (use links below). All online donations are fully tax deductible.
Set up your personal pages and use the e-mail facility to contact fellow BC/EFA supporters.
Individuals who visit your personal page or team page will have the opportunity to make a donation to BC/EFA in order to show their support on behalf of you and/or your team/show.
All of the "Team-Raiser" money
Will be counted toward final
Gypsy of The Year Competition
Fundraising totals.
If ever it was true - a phrase we first coined in the early '90's has particular resonance today:
WHAT WE DO TOGETHER MAKES A DIFFERENCE
You're just a "click" away!
Click the link below to go to BC/EFA to make a donation, add them to your homepage, MySpace or other areas you can place links.
Just because there's a strike it doesn't mean the need is lessened, if anything it means there are MANY MORE that will need to rely on BC/EFA...and us!

Posted: 11/21/07 at 3:29pmI feel bad. My Carols for a Cure CD was left at my front door when I wasn't home, and someone stole it. They're sending me another one, but I wish I could afford to donate extra.

dancingthrulife - your heart is in the right place unlike whom ever took your Carols for a Cure CD Set. I signed up on the BC/EFA site to give $100 a month for the next 12 months. I'd like to share that donation with you and people like you, whose hearts are in the right place but aren't able to contribute as they'd like. I'm lucky, I have a successful business, food on the table for my family, and most importantly, my health. Here's to the kind and generous spirit in all of you. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
dancingthru if you haven't heard the CD set yet - it's amazing and it will definitely put you in the Christmas mood.

StageFan - That's really sweet of you.
They won't deliver the CD to my house again, so its estimated arrival at my dad's house is some time on Monday, according to the email I got.

I just saw a regional production of Les Mis and I donated. So I assume all the regional theater are still doing it if someone hasn't already said that.

I signed up as part of Rent's team. I have to say I'm pretty shocked at how little is being raised!
If you can please donate:

Posted: 11/29/07 at 10:05pmWith so little having been raised on the website, will BC/EFA recover from losing about half their fundraising time?

Posted: 11/30/07 at 1:41pmhmmm...I just assumed they'd keep raising money at the shows until tha Gyspy of the Year contest, which has been rescheduled for Dec. 17 & 18. Are shows not going to do that?
