Suggestions for a singer for my new song?

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me. I'm a songwriter who's putting together an album; 12 songs with a different singer for each song. I'm having trouble finding/deciding on juuuuusst the right singer for one of the songs, and I wondered if you had any suggestions?

I'm looking for a male baritone, preferably older (or with an older-sounding voice), with kind of a James Taylor vibe to it. White, black, green, red, I don't care, but someone with that smooth, comforting, deep, rich voice that makes you feel all warm inside. The song goes down to a low A and up to a high D, so not quite a bass but not the high tenor we're so used to hearing these days.

It can't be someone TOO big (Norm Lewis isn't returning my calls, haha), but I have been in this business for a long time and do have many, many connections, so don't be afraid to throw out a name even if he seems unobtainable. Plus, it's easier to get a bigger name for a recording than a show because it's only a few hours of their time. So he should have SOME clout, and hopefully have a recording or two already under his belt. I'm sure there are people I'm forgetting, so that's where you can help me!

Feedback on the song (from the demo) has been good so far, and the song's message is a strong one and I'll be making a video, so it has the potential to go viral (at least I hope so). Now all I need is the perfect voice to go with it; thanks for any help you can provide!

Brian Stokes Mitchell? (I have no idea of his range, but everything else seem to fit!)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Marc Kudisch? Peter Gallagher? It's really difficult to think of a baritone these days. Maybe expand your search? A few of those tenors can drop down when the situation calls for it.

Yes, exactly.

Kudisch is a good idea; I think Brian Stokes Mitchell might be in the Norm Lewis category, but you're right, he certainly would be perfect!

That's a pretty big range for most men. Brian d'Arcy seems like he would be good for that range. Is Jonathan Groff too big? cause he would probably fit too. I'm struggling to think of a voice appropriate, especially where the higher stuff is as strong as the lower stuff.

Big range? It's only an octave and a half. Actually less than that, just an octave and a fourth. Much less than most of my songs, haha! Natalie Weiss recorded my last one and had to sing two octaves and a third (and killed it!).

(You're probably thinking it's two and a half octaves because it's A2 to D4, but remember it's the Cs that make the numbers roll over. So the top note, D4, is only one step above middle C)

Ohh for some reason I was thinking of D5, which would have been a crazy range. I don't know why I thought that! I'll blame it on the fact that I had a long day today.

Do you know William Michals? He was the standby for Emile DeBecque in "South Pacific" at Lincoln Center a couple years ago -- he is operatically trained, but doesn't have that typical opera sound -- he's very smooth. Here's a video of him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCJKk-LpIlo

p.s. He got to play Emile DeBecque many times -- he became my first choice in the role.

UPDATE: Wanted to let you guys know I found someone, and we'll be recording the song in April! I'm super excited about it, but I don't want to announce who it is until he actually records it, God forbid his schedule changes. But he says he's onboard, we have a recording date set, and I'll be giving hints between now and then as to who it is. Trust me, you've heard of him. Suggestions for a singer for my new song?
