Sunday Matinee Advice

Help BWW braintrust. We've had a last minute shake up of our plans and need to decide between Funny Girl or Life of Pi for our Sunday March 26 matinee. I have side orchestra tickets to the Sunday performance of Funny Girl already in hand, and rear mezz tickets to Life of Pi for Friday the 24th, that can be exchanged for the Sunday matinee. A last minute schedule change prevents us from doing a Friday evening show, hence the dilemma.

I don't think Funny Girl is going to move me in the way I want from great theatre but its anchored by a performance that I'd love to see. Life of Pi, despite what I've read about the mediocre book, I think will have some moments that are special and unique and beautiful.

Any advice on what to do? We may be back in NYC in mid June and could conceivably rebook Life of Pi for then, assuming it hasn't closed.

ANewBrainn said: "I mean honestly it's more likely that Pi will be closed by June and Funny Girl which will be on until September. Both shows are weak in the dialogue/writing. But I'd say the fantastic stagecraft in Life of Pi makes it worth seeing for sure. Funny Girl is a weak production of a weak show with some good songs in it."

Appreciate the advice. If I were to rebook Funny Girl for later, I’m assuming I’ll have to pay for the difference in ticket prices? I was able to book our upcoming Funny Girl tickets six months ago for right around $60 per ticket. I think the same ones are now selling for nearly $300

I don’t think your take of Funny Girl is accurate. Whatever flaws the book has, you just don’t notice it when Lea is in it. It’s almost 3 hours but I was surprised how quickly time passed by and it was one of the most thrilling performances I’ve seen.

The first act of FUNNY GIRL has most of the good songs and was so brilliant I had tears in my eyes at the end off Don't Rain on My Parade". Then the 2nd act started...

You’d miss the second half of a killer performance by Lea Michele.


I saw the show with Julie when Beanie had covid and then again with Lea. I enjoyed the second act both times.
