THE HILLS OF CALIFORNIA Reviews

Does anyone have any experience with tdf seat locations for this show? I’m thinking of going back next week and prefer to buy in advance.

Our Town or Stereophonic

While it’s true that a good production of Our Town is likely to come to broadway more often than a revival of Stereophonic, I wonder how many of those folks here recommending Stereophonic with its current cast. I have and it isn’t great. Maybe better to see a strong cast in Our Town over a Stereophonic cast with three replacements in key roles, replacements that are still working to find their rhythm with the rest of the cast.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 10/13/24

BETTY22 said: ""Hills of California" is such a wonderful play - i was hoping this would really pick up after NYT rave.OUCH" Me too. Love this show. Saw it Friday night, and the mezzanine was two thirds empty. Orchestra had several full rows on the side empty. I get that it was Yom Kippur, but wow. Hope it was mostly because of the holiday but grosses would suggest otherwise.

Just got back from seeing HoC again (first time was in London) and wanted to share a few general thoughts and some spoiler-filled comments about the reworked third act. First off, the show is just as strong as I remember from the West End. Performances, direction, set, lights, sound, writing - all top notch! I could go on and on about how much this play moves me but just count me among those who found this work of art deeply affecting - both its London iteration and the current version. Wonde...

So, I understand lightning can only strike once usually in a production, but I was unfortunately pretty disappointed with the newbies.Rebecca Naomi Jones is terribly miscast as Holly. You can take the girl out of musical theatre, but you can't take the musical theatre out of the girl. Since that has been her training ground for the last several years, it comes as no surprise that her performance is shallow and surface level. S...

For those that have seen it, what kind of merch (if any) are they selling? Saw it on its last day in West End - scripts and programs were all that was being offered.

It’s a bummer that the herbal cigs are irritating for folks. We should all be able to breathe comfortably in the theatre. I disagree that it’s unnecessary. Cigarette smoking, specifically the mother’s disdain of it, the moments she permits it and its significance for the kids’ rebellion, is kind of a running theme throughout the show.

This was our favorite from our summer West End visit - such great performances by all of the actors. Laura Donnelly is a force of nature but all of the adult sisters are incredible, and each has phenomenal character moments. Really an ensemble show and so glad that the cast came over intact. It’s a family drama (with a surprising number of good act one laughs thrown in) and it hits hard, dealing with relatable (at least for my family and me) themes like jealousy, obligation, ambition and maki...

Hills of California Ticket Prices

Matt Rogers said: "Just received a discount code: HCMTC01 (the o is a zero). Takes orchestra to $94 and mezz to $58, on “select seats”, which probably means all the bad ones." Thanks! Think it’s the same as the HOCDM85 code from earlier? I’m really hoping the show is a success but need to wait and see if there are any further discounts before getting tickets for the kids…

Sutton Ross said: "Hey Pip, yes it's extremely similar to how it was in London. And most of the action takes place pretty center stage. Sitting close for this one makes perfect sense so don't listen to someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the show and is just guessing/judging.The prices on Broadway were reasonable right after theaters reopened in 2021. However, for the past few seasons (and perhaps looking at how much money was lost for those sad 18 months), prices have skyrocketed and ...

TaffyDavenport said: "We all knowthat pricing is pretty arbitrary, right? The first few rows at most theatres, regardless of selling price, aren’t considered prime seating, and, for example, a VIP would never be seated there. Sometimes, they’re even given out as rush seats. Maybe someone else can confirm, but doesn’tHills of Californiahave a 2-level set, which would make the very front of the orchestra even less desirable?" I don’t think it’s really a two level set. What’s above the main stag...

Hills of California Ticket Prices

Hills of California is an incredible show. I saw it in June in London and it was the highlight of our West End visit. I am so wishing that we could all see it again (family of four) on Broadway but am frustrated by the ticket prices $350 for center orchestra. Are plays (we’ve spent that much for musicals) on Broadway generally this spendy? I think we spent 300 pounds total for the four of us to sit front row center in London and they weren’t rush tickets, just normal website purchase. Anyway,...

Groban & Ashford in SWEENEY TODD On Broadway

binau said: "Could Mandy Patinkin perhaps try to replace Groban successfully this time? Paired with Bernadette, that'd be the dream!"Having seen this production and feeling mostly lukewarm about it, that casting would be something I’d be first in line to see. I don’t think it’s at all likely.

Related question: Are those seats worth buying, even at comparative discounts?"I sat far left in one of those partial view seats and don’t recall any obstructions. Loved the seat, especially for the price.

Ball to star in ALW’s new reimagined ASPECTS OF LOVE

Jun 30, 2023 — 12:26:59 PM

Me too. It was the show I was most excited to see last month and the one that I enjoyed the least. The revisions added nothing dramaturgically and the actors playing the main three (Rose, Alex and George) were not a great fit. Its early close saddens but doesn’t surprise me. I was there a week or two after it opened and the auditorium was only two thirds full.
