re: Sung Thru Musicals on Broadway ( Famous & Infamous)#7
Posted: 12/19/04 at 7:41pmdoes A CHRISTMAS CAROL count? I mean, it's mostly sung through and it says Broadway on MTI... but I guess it all depends on how many seats are at the theatre at Madison Square Garden to tell whether it was on Broadway or not...

Posted: 12/19/04 at 7:45pmI think that maybe this question might be better asked another way. In the last fourteen years (since 1990) how many new musicals have NOT been Sung Thru?

Are you serious, pab? Just last season-
Avenue Q
Taboo
The Boy From Oz
Bombay Dreams
Wicked
This season there's Brooklyn, so far. Most musicals still aren't sung-through.

Speaking of Rockabye Hamlet i just purchased a cd with two songs from that show on there. They are pretty good.

I think that's what she meant; sung-through musicals aren't the norm right now.
I think they hit a peak with the British invasion -- all of the "Big Four" were sung-through, as are (still) most of ALW's work.

Posted: 12/20/04 at 11:11amHair was not all the way sung thru... in fact there are a couple of pretty funny scenes. Carrie was all the way sung through except for one tiny section of dialogue that was underscored and led to a song

re: Sung Thru Musicals on Broadway ( Famous & Infamous)#22
Posted: 12/20/04 at 11:19amFor the Record: Sweeney Todd is NOT ENTIRELY sung through. There are many parts with speaking, to many to considrer it Sung-Thru. Also Hair was much like Sweeney in the sense that it was about 85-90% sung-through, but there were too many spoken scenes in them to consider them sung-through.
