If it has star power, it's like any film. Had you heard of Ghostbusters before it came out?
Just so you know - ALW can not see this project through without the blessing of Paramount, as they own the underlying rights. They were a co-producer of the musical, because of this, so to assume that ALW can do it just because he puts up the money is wrong.
Bette as Norma!!!!
**chokes on vomit**
no thanks, beside, she already has Gypsy under her belt as a movie musical.
LIZA LIZA LIZA
Please not Glenn....please....
Anybody heard any more about this supposed project?

Good question - Andrew Lloyd Webber's "three month" quote from February 26 is up LOL.

>Asked what his next film was going to be, and when, he answered that it was Sunset Boulevard and that it would "probably be announced in the next three months."
right. That's why i asked.
Times up, Webber.
*bump*
Does anyone know anymore information about this project?
I saw Patti and Betty in London. Glen, Betty and Elaine on Broadway. Patti was amazing but Betty WAS Norma to me. She was brilliant!!! I really like the idea of Liza playing Norma even though it is awfully close to her own life in many aspects. Liza or Betty for me hands down. With the movie musical making a comeback I think SUNSET BOULEVARD would make a great transfer to the big screen.
Well I tthink its safe to say that Betty won't be doing the movie...
I don't think there is any new word on this project. Perhaps Paramount is still negotiating with ALW on a distribution deal.
You're very persistent, aren't you Adam Chris.
yes, i am! ...in almost everything.
i love this show, and i feel teased.

Me too... I really really want this movie to happen.
One evening this spring, joeyjoe and I were watching a DVD from the library called Divas Are Forever - starring, you guessed it - Shirley Bassey. About three numbers into it, I couldn't help feeling she'd make the perfect Norma Desmond. She is completely over the top, has the vocal chops and is a delight to watch.
Shirley recorded an ALW album maybe 10 years ago, where she sang a couple of songs from Sunset. I can't say I was impressed. But then again I only listened to the album once or twice. I do remember that she used her own name in the end of With One Look:
"They'll say Shirley's back at last"
But it sounded like her tongue was swollen or something, because it sounded more like
"They'll say Chili's back at last"
I guess she thought she was pretty hot?
Anyway, I think she's a little too old to play Norma. Maybe she could have pulled it off 10 years ago?
Glenn Close and Ewan McGregor! I love it! This is going to be great!

I'm hoping we will be pleasantly surprised at the outcome with Close as Norma.
Let's all shed one silent tear for Liza...
THEN rejoice about this movie being made! LOVE Ewan.

Will someone please explain the attraction for Ewan McGregor because it totally escapes me. Totally!

I wish I knew how to add a pic to the message.

I've seen his picture. I've seen his movies. That's why I asked.
I was also thinking about Shirley Bassey! I think, for a box office draw AND good singing AND good acting, I think Shirley or Liza! Can't choose both, LOVE them both! But it's not for us to decide! But I am still VERY excited about the idea of Ewan, esp after seeing him as Sky!!!!!!!
Has there ever been a moment with so much to live for?
I'm glad they went with Ewan over Hugh, though. And Glenn will be a huge box office draw.
Let's just hope there's some truth to this news!
I know we're just dredging through back-catalogues, but of the "old-timers", I think Shirley Maclaine would do a good job.
Knowing ALW's way of thinking, Close is inevitable, though.
Incidentally it would be a crime not to cast John Barrowman, rather than Ewan.
